Bass strings online is closing.
« on: August 14, 2018, 04:48:55 AM »
Hey guys, just an FYI-if you buy strings from Bassstringsonline.com, Jason is closing the store. Inventory will have to move, so look for blowout specials.
It's a shame really, they were a great place to do business with.

Agreed, he did a good job with customer service and pricing.

That's too bad. I've bought from him a few times. Didn't he move to larger location about a year ago? Sorry to see him go.

He did. He posted a message on his facebook page, explaining why he's closing the store.

I looked up the video he posted on his personal FB page. He really didn't specifically say why but it seems obvious he's not making enough to justify keeping the business alive.

It appears now that the closing will only be temporary.

I just read what he wrote today. Confusing. He must have hoped to cut costs he when moved but didn't happen, or it wasn't enough. If he's coming back, which doesn't seem to be certain, he'd better have a good plan. It will be harder to reestablish himself now.

I had noticed that over time, he carried fewer items in stock, e.g. D'addario and Ernie Ball weren't immediately shipped, and he had been out of about 90% of the LaBella line for some time. When I called him awhile back about one that he was out of, he told me that they were very slow and way far behind, yet other online stores had their own lines of LaBellas in stock. It's a tough business.

At best I found the timeliness of the service slow, over two weeks to get a set of Ken Smith Rockmasters - not good.

JustStrings.com by comparison was way better, they keep stock on what they advertyise.

My experiences with BSO were good, and Jason was very helpful in helping me figure out what I needed on a couple of occasions.

Having said that, I've been using Just Strings for occasional purchases for many years now and have never had anything but a great experience with them.

Now, if someone could just talk La Bella into re-introducing their Deep Talkin' Rounds range, I would be very, very happy...

I didn't realize La Bella had discontinued the DTB rounds.

I didn't realize La Bella had discontinued the DTB rounds.

It's been more than a year, I believe.

I still want to bang my head against the wall since I was using them exclusively on my short-scale basses since the 80s. The only SS roundwound that one could get with a .110 E string out of the box. And I liked them on my long scale basses as well, but there I can finagle with other offerings and be somewhat happy.

Just Strings has some long and extra long scale sets left, along with singles, at least that was the case when I last checked the site a few days ago.

I've been really happy with Just Strings.

Have you tried these?

I guess I should've been more precise...by "SS" I meant short-scale, not stainless steel.

Back in the 80s when they first came out I had Sheehan set on most of my basses. However, I prefer not to put long-scale strings on a short-scale bass.

Thanks for the thought nevertheless

I've bought a fair amount from Juststrings and some from Basstrings online, but the best prives I've found on short scale Labellas are from Imperial Guitar online.  http://www.imperialguitar.com/

I've been thinking I might try some of the new Labella low tension flats, too.

I've just put a (BEAD) set of Low Tension Flats on my EB-0L a couple of days ago. The first set of flatwounds ever that I can live with, having been a rounds-only player all my life. No idea how they would feel on a short scale bass, though.
