Title: hey PBG, is this worth fixin'
Post by: SKATE RAT on August 25, 2011, 07:13:13 AM
ok i have a Ampeg B25 that i got for free. it has no tubes at all.when i looked inside there is some rust on the transformers and it looks like a mouse ate the sheilding on some of the wires (they are solid wire(not strand) so this shouldn't be a big deal)there is also some mod done to the speaker outputs (there are 2 extra, most likely to run in 4 or 8 ohm instead of the factory 16) to make matters worse there were 2 big platic knobs that look like they came from a stove. when i tried to pull one off the whole shaft came with it. so now i need a new pot. is it worth fixing? can you estimate how much it would cost me to fix? i would only use it at home since it's only 55 watts.
thanks

If you can take readings on the transformers and they're OK, it is salvagable, but it will probably cost as much as buying a functioning B25B to bring it back to life, $3-400+. They're good amps and since you don't have any money in it, I'd say go for it.
