I was out making the rounds to day and saw this well I have been looking at it for weeks really. BC Rich NJ series don't know the model. I couldn't help but think of Uwe and his Dimebag bass lol. This bass is the zenith of '80s pointy bass design ! got it for cheap I think I will flip it. I challenge Uwe to a duel !
-
That would be an Ironbird bass. Those didn't seem to catch on as well as some of their other pointy basses.
-
I think it's cool though, I would buy one just for the fun of it and put on a fretless neck and record some jazzy stuff with it and when people go "What bass did you use on that recording?" just show them and they'll go "No way"
-
Be careful with this bass man, it's like a weapon of mass destruction! ;D
-
I really like the basses simplicity, one pup two controls,it's all business.
-
Will a Model G fit on it?
-
LOL Model G, I would have to route. ;D The split P is either a Dimarzio or Schaller has lot of balls.
-
Is that a bolt-on?
-
Yep Dave bolt on.
-
I asked because I had not seen a USA BC Rich bolt-on until I saw a used Bich in the late 90s. It was a bolt-on with the same single Precision pickup and Schaller bridge. The body was mahogany -- it was sort of a see-thru cherry finish. It sounded great and had been reduced to $295. I passed because I just couldn't see myself playing a BC Rich Bich.
-
It says LA California USA on the neck plate but I'm not so sure it's US. I am thinking of selling it but it's kinda growing on me. It would be just the thing for a 80's cover gig !
-
I like how the bridge sits on its own little peninsula...
-
good timing. Vintage Guitar magazine has it in last months issue's price list for $1,000.
-
Sweet I paid 100 bucks for it.
-
If VG said $1000 for a bolt-on 80s BC Rich, I think they're dreaming. Said it before and I'll say it again, I distrust their price guide. They and their reporting dealers have a vested interest in pushing up prices.
-
I agree Dave that does seem insane !
-
Enough is enough, Scott, they really shoud take that bandsaw away from you.
But if that really your white TBird after, errrm, improvement with the new bandsaw, then upper fret access has certainly taken a leap forward ...
Keep it if it sounds good. It is a witness of its time and playing it nobody will mistake you for that worst of all things: "the "serious musician".
And I agree, the Dimebag Deans (and even more than my Flying V, their Flying V/Explorer crossover Dimebag Razorback) certainly owe a nod or two to that design.
-
You need to be a member of Tokyo Blade or Hanoï Rocks to be allowed to play this bass on stage...
-
I always had my eye on one of these

And it has a Kahler ! Man the Ironbird would be bitch'n with a Kahler !
-
Match Made in Heaven.
I need to try one of those Dimarzio super hot humbuckers - D Activator X's

Priced half off the vintage suggested price (which isn't a bit realistic IMO)!!

The likeness of Fräulein Rommel and her brother (pictured above) is uncanny. That smile. Twins?

Here's Geezer Butler using an Ironbird bass complete with Kahler and the works.
-
That was awesome ! I forgot all about Live Aid. I remember watching that performance and thinking they looked lathargic, now I watch that and they look very spry ! The bass also had custom cross inlays, a pickup by the bridge and a whole lot of switches. Mine has gone from mearly interesting to very cool ! If it's good enough for Geezer ;)
