Title: Gretsch Billy Bo
Post by: Rhythm N. Bliss on May 06, 2009, 02:16:13 AM
There's a LEFTY on ebay right now!

Sure is a beaut but if you look at the back of the headstock it says MADE IN JAPAN.
I think that's why I passed on buyin' one new when I had the chance a coupla years ago, but for half price I'd love to grab it like a rabbit!
I'd own this & this Elliot Easton SG if I didn't just buy that Zemaitis!!

I'm happy with my Z but this Billy Bo would be great for playin' ZZ TOP toons
...& White Stripes. lol
This SG would be good for slide--Duane Allman toons.
Oh well~ they say you can't have everything. I guess that's true for everyone.
...everyone except God. He owns it ALL!

Yeah~ Seven Nation Army~That's a BADASS riff!
Don't tell your daughter but us guys who are Meg White fans are pretty excited about her sex vid.
WooHoo!
Some say it ain't her but looks like her to me.
God bless 'er!  :o

Yep. Dream On~ Dream until your dreams come true!

Rockin' tonight with ZZ TOP's Rancho Texicano Greatest Hits!
Nice collection but Pincushion is conspicuously absent. Alas
Here it is:

Regarding the controversy over whether the sex vid is really Meg White or not, the comments about the vid were very revealing. Several guys said they'd been with Meg & those are definitely her breasts & some said they'd been with her & that vid is definitely NOT her. Some said whether it's her or not, it's doing the trick. haha
Then some guy said it IS her for sure cuz he'd done her too & knew that necklace she's wearing is a gift from her grandma Edna. lol
The cake taker was the guy who said:
It's definitely her. Look at how she cocks her head to one side like Meg does when she's drumming. HAR HAR HAR
Not only that but she keeps losing the time like Meg does on drums too!!

CLASSIC!!!

I saw ZZ Top and Aerosmith last night at Fiddler's Green in Denver.

DAMN.  "Them boys" all can ROCK.  I've never seen so many people there - it was standing room everywhere!

The intro for ZZ Top was simple - the announcer just said: 'Let's welcome that little old band from Texas!"  And the crowd went nuts.  The Billy Bo was used early and often - it has a wood top, and a pink/red back.  The bass was a P-style with two pickups and a wood top with red colored back like the Billy Bo, but I was too far away to see any more.

Aerosmith was the second performance, and they have quite an act.  Joe Perry had the white Gibson with the painting of his wife on it, plus more guitars.  Just an excellent stage act, and well-played.  Those boys (including Tyler) haven't lost a note.

On a guitar theme....

The ZZ Top boys had their fuzzy white instruments from the "Legs" video there...

And for a couple of numbers, Joe Perry played a custom guitar that had a lucite body AND a lucite headstock.  They both picked up the stage lighting and glowed.

What do ya think guys? Is that too much to pay for an ax Made In Japan?

Shore is purty!!!

the made in japan stigma is largely a thing of the past. i tend to question overpriced made in the usa instruments.

MIJ... Seems like these days "made in Japan" is a good thing.

My Dan Armstrong re-issues are both made in Japan, the Lucite bass is better than the basswood model but they were different price points too.

I don't doubt the quality but I also think the MSRP on those is silly high. I feel the same way about the "Pearly Gates" Gibson too... I don't care where it's made.

There's no longer a MIJ stigma, hasn't been for years, but even the top notch models aren't valued in the used and vintage market like US instruments. That's just the way it is.

I think this one is way below usual retail, so it's a good price from that standpoint. Still, Dr. Aquafresh is right, the regular price is way too high.

Thanks for your replies guys. They usually are way overpriced but this one ain't.
Wow~ MSRP is about 38 hun & the usual price for a new one even righty is 22 to 27 hun.
It's chambered so it's nice an' light, has a thin neck which makes it easy to play & it's simultaneously futuristic & retro.
It's almost half price, sexy as hell & LEFTY!
Not only that but Billy F. Gibbons is playing these on tour cuz the original Bo Diddley gave him is too rare to risk losing.
Furthermore, they're not bein' made anymore, at least not lefty.
I remember a few years back when Southpaw Guitars put together an order of 20 or 25 for Gretsch & they were about 24 or 25 hun apiece & we were told it'd be a One Shot Deal.
I'll bet those were the only ones ever made & this is one of 'em, so it'll go up in value cuz they're so RARE.

Think I'm gonna grab it like a rabbit!

Look at that toggle! mmmm-hmmmmmmmm

Looks like no lefty Billy Bo for me just yet but may get a Red Bear guitar amp.
They were made in Russia for awhile for The Gibson Guitar Company.
Good reviews for 'em at harmonycentral.

May get the black SG tooo
