It's great to be back at the LBO!
You guys know I love a good misfit toy and this bass is the king! As 63-65 Thunderbird prices sail out of sight I'd all but given up on getting one then the this modded beast showed up on Reverb.  I'm absolutely in love with this thing. The video tells the story. https://youtu.be/0ucyaGDcRsg?si=gO4uMyS-oI5hD-bs

Missed you guys! I had a chance to try out the Epi fretless Jack Casady and man do I love it, it's high on my want list. Here's my thoughts on it. https://youtu.be/oZvk-wkM8fY?si=FebENSkRMdRI_GNN

Quote from: Dave W on March 17, 2023, 12:23:18 AMNice looker.

My older son recently bought a Sire 5er and really likes it but I don't remember which model, and he's several states away so I haven't seen it yet.

I did...great bass although a boat anchor.  Given what the previous owner did to it, I'm pretty happy with it.  He had replaced the hardware with Hipshot, Fender P5 in the neck slot and Lollar Jazz in the bridge.

Due to the ruggedly handsome Son of DaveW's questionable IT skills and rudimentary knowledge of PHP, it seems he has managed to bring the site back to life.  No furry woodland creatures were harmed in the process, although he may have been drinking bourbon while resurrecting it and may have stepped on a squirrel without knowing it.

He accept large bundles of unmarked bills or coffee, preferably the latter.  Or you can get him one of these.

I've got one myself, a 1984 one I think. Of course it looks great and is well-made and sturdy as well. Good playability too. But ... I've never been to a session where anybody said: "Wow, that bass sounds good!" (Something that happens with any Ric 4001/4003 and if you have the grubbiest and deadest strings on it.) It's the only bass where I sometimes catch myself thinking: "This bass would probably sound real good if you dropped a Fender split-coil smack-dab in the middle of it.:-X

Heresy I know, but the flesh is weak. I have refrained from doing so so far.

"Humbrol",  ;D, man it's been half a century since I read that!
