there was a brit at the old pit named trevor raggett. he had at least two walls as well as a tony revell custom abg. i thought he posted here once but i can't recall his screen name. google 'Tevor's Basses' to see his stuff.

Mike Lutz played a Hayman 40/40 when he was in Brownsville Station. There's an ad on this page although you can't see the detail well.

Some of you may remember Scotty Allen from early Pit days. He has a Hayman in his collection with two P pickups, not sure of the model, from the pic it is Wal-shaped.

I had read somewhere that the Haymans were all made by Burns.

Mike Rutherford had a double neck Shergold guitar/bass with detachable body halves, so he could switch the guitar part between 6 and 12 string, or differently tuned 6 string, etc.

Looks like the shape predated the Wal's...?

Shergold and Wal started in the mid 70s. I think the Hayman brand is older but I don't know who first had that particular shape.

Looks like 70 for the first Hayman guitars, 71 for the bass. http://www.shergold.co.uk/hayman.html

... and WAL set-up shop in '74, going "production" in '78... The Hayman 4040 came in ahead of the pack, but they were built by the Shergold Woodworking Company...

Apparently WAL are back in business...?

The Wal body shape evolved from the Fender Mustang bass. Ian Waller modeled the first Wal bass after a Mustang, and used a Mustang pickup and a 30 ¼" scale neck.

The guy who bought the same bass twice — first in 1977 and again in 2023
