I really think the pickguard on this is fantastic.

I like it too - different!

The owner must now know much about basses if he can't identify a tugbar on the photo he cites.

Interesting. I wonder if anyone's going to pony up $1500 for it.

I'll be surprised if anyone does. Although they are rare, they aren't the most desirable of the vintage Ampegs.

very rare.  but priced too high.  Was a decent SS bass in its day but always looked like a toy and never got much attention.  there was a fretless one on feebay  about 2 months ago.   I have a Bruce Johnson reissue that i bought form Saltymonkey last year and it really sounds huge.  His redesign fixed most of the shortcomings of the original and it is a great bass. Quarter pounder encased in black epoxy pup sounds great with the flats. Very motownish but with more man parts.   2 octave neck also  so it uses regular strings  and nut sits out further to loose the toy feel IMHO.  And a great finish and tough not like the ampegs... I have tried to convince him to make these but as of now he has made the original 5 and thats it..  sitting next to Bruce AEB # 70
