I've decided to make 2 semi-hollow models, one with and one without f-holes. I decided naming the models would be a fun thing to do. I was thinking of naming the non-f-hole model after my one of favorite basses, Hofner. Thinking Sir Paul as well, I'm considering the following names:
* Cavern
* Liverpool
* Hamburg
* Other?
For the f-hole model, I'm not so sure. Maybe after one of my favorite places or something to make me think of the vintage EB tone:
* Linderhof
* Vienna
* Edinburgh
* Epoch
* Classic
* Antiquity
* Other?
Merry Christmas gang!
;D ;D ;D ;D

Macca, Eleanor, Jude, Penny, Strawberry, Norwegian and Revolution immediately spring to mind.
Also, Ringo... ;)
-
Here's a name for a Macca-inspired bass: The 909 (From the tune One after 909)
-
Good ones guys, I didn't think of any of those!
-
The Norwegian Wood model...and you could add an outrageous upper horn like those recently discussed!
;D ;D

Are you saying my bass's horn is insufficient? 😡
-
No, we all know that when the tool is made of good wood, size doesn't matter.
-
Cavern is a Höfner model name. Liverpool and Hamburg are Ric model names (current 350V63 and former 230/2030 models) and don't doubt for a minute that Ric would send you a cease and desist letter.
How about the DocBass Why Don't We Do It In The Road model? Nah, too long. ;D
-
Sir Paul
and
Felix (as in Pappalardi for that classic EB tone)
-
Thinking of some other favorite Macca basslines...
Maybe (Hey) "Bulldog" or "Taxman"?
-
Geez Dave, what a buzz kill! I had forgotten about all of those. I would certainly avoid all of them for just the reasons you noted.

Actually 'Norwegian wood' is allready used on a series of hanmade guitars here in Norway!
Byt wether or not the woody name is protected or not, I don't know.

How 'bout the DocBass "Mojo Machine" or "Mojo Mama"
Also how 'bout a 5 string option?...just a thought

Thanks for the suggestions. As for a fiver, I've never done one before, so I'd have to think about that one.

"mojo" is an overused cliche'. avoid at all costs. you want a really original name.
-
So far I'm leaning toward the Liverpool and the Classic.

My 2 favs also

Classic is good. Your body design is your own but it's certainly classic rather than modern. Fender doesn't seem to claim a trademark on its Classic and Classic Player series names, just on the specific model name. Probably too generic for a trademark.
OTOH Liverpool will get you a C&D from John Hall if he were to notice it. And you want to be noticed by the bass-playing public.
-
My thoughts on "Classic" is you might as well just name it "Bass".
An original design deserves an original name.
How a bout Blackburn Bass, or Sixty-Four?
-
Since you are the Doc, you must use medical related names for your creations, I think. Maybe "Panacea" would be a nice name for an all-around (2-pickup) bass.
I'd name one "Frankenstein", but on the other hand I have a weird sense of humor, so...
Also you could do what Beatles did, take a common word like "Beetles" and change it to "Beatles". "Liverpool" can be "Leeverpool" or something.
I wouldn't change "Classic" much thru, everything that includes "ass" must be whole...
-
.... The Fab Four?

There's a Liverpool model? Geeezzz.

Well, steering clear of anything medical. Got enough of that in my personal life to last me forever!
-
If I'm not mistaken, isn't the Eastwood hollowbody a "Classic"
-
Ok, how about Klassich?

Rickenbacker 350V63 Liverpool (http://www.rickenbacker.com/model.asp?model=350V63). I mentioned it earlier in this thread.

I'll drink to that! :toast:

Just a thought, re your logo and a name... db COOPER
-
The more I think about this, the more I think I may not name them at all (I call the shape the ROCit, after my band) and just keep track of them via consecutive serial numbers and not worry about it. It's getting complicated!
-
In that regard why not just give them a number? DB2, DB4 .... Skip a few numbers along the way and 25 years from now there'll be someone on going batshit trying to find the missing model ;)

Or combine the two ideas. Docbass ROCit DB1, etc. Or Docbass ROCit Model S (for solidbody), etc.
-
The DocBass ROCit is pretty cool
-
I agree that naming conventions can be a PITA, but I think it's worth the effort, especially for an original design.

This, and add a number after ROCit...that's your serial #.

ROCit
