Gibson Basses / LP-1 Pre-amp
« on: January 05, 2010, 03:35:29 PM »
This might be a pretty good deal on a LP-1, for anyone that might be interested............

I bought my first one for twice the asking price of this one, & ended up with one for around $50.00 including shipping several years later......... They work well with a Gibson Plus 50 powered cabnet, or any powered speaker enclosure. This is the pre-amp designed to go with the early Les Paul low impedance basses & guitars. The powered speaker seems much harder to come by than the pre-amp. I paid the asking price for this head for shipping on the complete amp, & that was a bargin!

Gibson Basses / EB-1 Reissue Bass Case
« on: December 02, 2009, 06:30:13 PM »
Most of the EB-1 reissue's have had the yellow lined case. My first EB-1 had a case like this one, I thought it was an aftermarket case but this is about the fifth one I've seen on eBay with a case like it. They all have the bare blocks of foam. Looks kinda un-Gibson like to me. I don't think anything else came in a case quite like this.............

Gibson Basses / 1959 EB-2 Capacitor Question...
« on: October 22, 2009, 06:15:24 PM »
I have a 1959 EB-2 one of the early ones with a single coil pickup. Through the "F" hole, I notice years ago that it has two sprague capactors twisted together, soldered to the tone control. One of the wires is broken off of one of the caps, possibly because they were twisted together too tight. I always wondered how much difference it might make if I tried to repair this. Being my oldest bass, I've always figured I'd better leave well enough alone. It sounds good as is, how much better would it sound with both capacitors?  ??? ??? ??? :o

Gibson Basses / Les Paul Triumph Bass control plate stiffeners..........
« on: October 01, 2009, 07:20:21 PM »
When I bought a NOS control plate to replace the broken one, I wanted to try to make it less likely to crack again. These are getting hard to come by & are quite expensive. Very few of these basses have survived without a nasty crack by the guitar jack. I made a .015 thick spring steel plate that is hardly visable when installed under the plate & stiffens it considerably. I have about a dozen extra ones & would be willing to send one to a few fellow Les Paul Triumph Bass owners who want to avoid cracking their contol plates. Any interest?
