Gibson Basses / Oops... I did it again. 2016 ES Les Paul Bass
« on: August 31, 2017, 01:47:55 PM »
I tried not to buy it, but when a reduced floor model added a 15% discount, I caved. I'd been eyeballing a blemished gold one at MF for a while, but I really wanted a sunburst. Chicago Music Exchange had one marked down, I called to get a better description this morning. Told him to box it up............. This is the first short scale Les Paul Bass that Gibson has produced since the Hobit was discontinued. Plus it is light! I hope it balances well. Has anybody test driven one of these? I should have it possibly Tuesday. I bought this one for $2,035.00.

Gibson Basses / EB-0F at Willie's
« on: August 14, 2017, 04:01:28 PM »

http://www.williesguitars.com/index.cfm/basses/10/inventory/2

I had read the article about this bass in the Premier Guitar magazine mentioned. I tried contacting Brown's Guitar Factory by email to see about refinishing  my EB-0F, I never received a response.
I ended up having it refinish at Dave's Guitar Shop in Lacrosse WI.

Gibson Basses / Music videos featuring Gibson 20/20 basses.
« on: July 20, 2017, 01:11:16 PM »
Rob's video may be the only one out there to date, but it's a start! Once the 20/20 reissue comes out in 2020, we'll be ready at the LBO!

Bass Amps & Effects / Gibson LP-12 anyone??
« on: March 20, 2017, 07:17:30 AM »
This listing is the first complete amp I have seen in quite a while other than the one they've been trying to sell for years at $2,000.00. Still less than it sold for in 1969!

I don't really understand the listing. (1) or (2)? Did anybody need these?

I just ran into this 1958 EB-2 on Reverb. It is pictured with the same telescoping endpin that came with the original EB-1's. I have a question sent to the seller asking about it. I don't know if this was added. Could the very first EB-2's have came with this option? He has no photos of the end of the guitar.

Other Bass Brands / Double Neck Guitar & Basses
« on: June 25, 2016, 07:30:11 AM »
I've been sort of poking around the internet looking at different double neck options. It seems that most guitars have the bass on top, guitar on the bottom. I'm wondering if there is a good reason for this. To me, it seems backwards. Without ever having or playing one, I would think that the bass should be on the bottom. Does anybody have any experience with these? Any input?

A little bird is trying to tell me to make one........... Put the set of Hobbit pickups & controls in the bass & set the guitar up like a normal two humbucker Gibson.......... Bass on the bottom........  :vader:

Gibson Basses / 1987 Q-80
« on: June 21, 2016, 06:20:29 PM »
When my son was a teen ager, (over 20 years ago) I helped him get into a Q-80 identical to this one. The seller of this one claims that it is one of only 30 ever made. If he is correct, it might be rarer than the infamous 20/20. What do you think the odds are that it is one of 30?

Bass Amps & Effects / Markbass NY 112 & LM 250
« on: January 23, 2016, 09:29:23 AM »
Musicians Friend  sent me another 20% off total purchase coupon, I held tough until the day before it was going to expire, then caved. I haven't moved my TNT 150 with Black Widow speaker for a few years. As I get older, it seems to gain weight LOL. Craigslist had a listing for a New York 112 for $400, for $24 more I could buy a new one, free shipping from MF. I've had my (2) New York 115's with the Little Mark III for about two years & have been real happy with them, it handles all of the EB basses & even did well with the new EB five string. Being a little concerned about what to do if the head craps out, I didn't think it would be a bad idea to have a second head. The 20% off coupon gave me a killer deal on the LM 250, Same amp as the Little Mark III at half the power. There may be better setups out there for tone, but I still think Markbass has the best tone at the least amount of weight. At this stage of my life, that's important.......... I'll give it a workout at practice next Tuesday. I sure did rattle the hell out of my basement. The Markbass is only half the weight of the Peavey TNT 150. It's off to the guitar show in March............

Just started messing around with a Wifi Borescope I bought off eBay. I thought it would be useful to check out pot codes etc........... It came with an angle mirror to view at 90 degree angles, it reverses the photo, so you have to mirror it. It works clearer without the mirror. I found a number on the bottom of the top of my 1967 EB-2, not sure what it is for. The pot code is a bit fuzzy.

The price is rather high in my opinion, but it sports a "Tilt-O-Matic"! The price might go down over time, making it more tempting..........

Gibson Basses / Nice EB-4L on eBay, listed as an EB-0.
« on: November 01, 2015, 07:37:10 PM »
The seller has this 1972 EB-4L listed as an EB-0............

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1972-Gibson-USA-EB0-4-String-Bass-Cherry-EB-0-w-original-case-/371477136255?hash=item567dc3437f:g:vjUAAOSw~bFWKBx~

Looks to be in great shape, hand rest missing & TRC might have been changed. Strong cherry color, priced right. Anybody need one? This is a bargain compared to what I bought mine for years back. Tilt-O-Matic only available on first year models!!
