Still there. There's something about white basses, I just don't feel right with them. Which is a shame, because the a white Tbird looks gass-inducingly good on other people.

White basses look great under stage lighting, color changing with the lights.

IMO it would be long gone if it had chrome hardware

About 35% of the basses I sell are white, just behind Fiesta Red.  Gotta think white would be #1 if not for the JAE connection.

From my experience with an '89 Orville it's very possible those pups are nickel under the black.  If so it's fairly easy to get them shiny.

Yes. I recently bought a Greco pickup and the previous owner had removed the black. Indees shiny underneath.
