I see that story is two years old. Wonder where they are now? Let me guess....

The other big winner who turned out to be a big loser is that Jack Whittaker from West Virginia who won over $300 million. He's had one trouble after another. Granddaughter's boyfriend died at his house of an apparent OD, granddaughter did the same a few months later, he's been arrested for drunk driving and assault, his businesses have been robbed, he's in the middle of nasty divorce proceedings, bounced over a million in checks at a casino, and a couple of months ago his daughter died under possibly suspicious circumstances. And he was a successful construction company owner before he won. I don't think he's spent all the money yet but he may lose the rest of it in the divorce.

It just proves that money doesn't change your character and judgment - but it does test it.  That guy flunked big-time.

There are so many of these stories that you would get bored.  They all start the same and most end the same.  But when you are counting on the lottery to pay your bills to begin with, there is something not so happening going on between the ears.

Druggies are fun.  A couple of years back there was a debate about how to deal with the problem of children being born to drug abusers in California.  One of the usual solutions is to sterilize the procreating head cases, but that has been out of the legal loop since the mid 40s in most of the world.  So the idea was modified to getting people to voluntarily remove themselves from the march of human history.  After much discussion of the dollar amount that would be needed per person to tempt them, a civic minded group decided to plunge ahead and try it.  The demand was out the door, and thousands of people volunteered to have the sex organs shut down.  The amount?  $25.

We should blame David Lee Roth, who once made the comment, "I used to have a drug problem, but now I can afford it."   ;D

Your chances of winning the lottery are about the same whether or not you buy a ticket.  ;)

I quit smoking around 8 years ago.  I play the lottery every once in a while, especially when it goes sky high. For a buck or two I am gambling in a much more fun way than possible lung cancer and I am so far ahead compared to what I was spending per day on heaters.  That was when they were a couple of bucks a pack. I couldn't handle it now.  And the imagining how many basses I would buy if I won is like a small cover charge.

I never play because I'm 100 % certain I would never win and if I was wrong on that I'm likewise 100 % sure something terrible would happen to me next day, Monkey's Paw style*.

I buy lottery tickets occasionally, but I simply consider it a voluntary contribution to the tax base.  I don't ever expect to win anything.
