Gibson Basses / Re: T-Bird Studio Strings
« on: February 06, 2008, 05:24:53 PM »
So far I can't argue with either John or Mark. I like the Smith strings (used to use them on my 76 Bird) and I use the DR Black Beauties in 45-105. I'm a heavy pick player 98% of the time.

Didn't Bob Mould use one of those V2's or something? The one's with the V shaped pickups? Where those V shaped pickups just a gimmick or was there a reason for the shape?

Gibson Basses / Re: Nikki played this!!!! Yeah, right!
« on: February 03, 2008, 10:06:23 PM »
Even if Nikki played & smashed this one, is it worth over $1000? It wasn't his main stage bass that he smashed, just disposable one's that he only used for the purpose of the solo/smashing part of the show. Even if the story is true & he had papers to prove it, most people wouldn't pay that. There have been other Nikki smashed Epi NR's on Ebay before and I don't think they ever got close to that amount.

I'm looking forward to seeing his Joker character in the new Batman movie. He's done some good work in other movies as well. He was great in 'Lords of Dogtown'.

Great job on that bass!!! Looks fantastic!!  I'd go with gold knobs to make it look more vintage.

Not sure what color to recommend, but I agree with the Fraulien. No standard Gibson color, or at least not a typical sunburst. Uwe recently posted a pic of his purple-burst T-bird, now thats thinking outside the box! Also, Mark went with green & purple metalic on a couple of his & those are great! If I ever rehab a Bird I think I'd go with graphite gray, or gun metal gray, something along those lines.

Did anyone here buy that red sparkle 76 Bird that was on Ebay around Christmas time? I wanted that one bad for some reason.

Both girls (or is it 3 girls) in the video's look good to me. I don't have a preferance for hair color.

The one Nikki is holding in BP is a trans black and it looks like flame maple on the wings. No idea if the maple is just a top cap on mahog or if the entire wing is made of it. Either way, I have a feeling I know what I'm saving to buy next! ;D

The silver one (at least it looks silver to me) has the same 2 knob 1 toggle layout. Wonder if thats a new thing for T-birds in general?

The one T-bird is like the one Nikki Sixx has in a recent BP mag. Looks like it has his name on the pickguard as well. My wife won't be happy if that is a production model!
