Although I’m not really a rock guy I loved Cornick’s playing , especially the way he put together minor walks. Very melodic. Big influence on me. Great player.

I found that I was just fine with the single pickup , I was an old Pbass guy and was used to using my right hand to get tonal changes , rather than spinning a knob. It is strung with nicely broken in TI flats and does a nice warm thump.

There’s 17 of them on the Gibson site right now.

I’m fine with the sounds you get with a hollow body bass. But I’m generally after a fairly warm thumpy traditional tone. I think a 4005 would perfectly suit me , but it’s a bit too pricey.

The 4000 just has the single bridge pickup , and sounds great. Two knob simplicity , the tone knob is thumpy at one end had has serious bite at the other.

People were faking photographs when photography was in its infancy.

Early Steppenwolf pics have everybody with Transonic amps and Rickenbacker instruments , including a 4005.

He must have found strings , or maybe just kept buying new Longhorns. There’s lots of live shots of him playing Longhorns. Back in the later 60’s I remember occasionally seeing someone using those odd shaped things. But had no idea the were just cheap little things. I just assumed they’d be in the same price range as Rickenbackers and Gretsches.

I preferred to see it as a bass version of Harrison’s famous 12 string. And have to confess that I was hoping for a bass version of the 325 Lennon used.

Thank you!
The early Italian influence on Japanese basses before the lawsuit period is worth mentioning. With mother of toilet seat highlights and switches everywhere , it was a wonderful period.

Things got rather boring when they began to churn out the LP and Strat copies.

Beyond my snack bracket , but I’m really happy to see Rickenbacker do this , and happy for those that will place an order. First deliveries are expected this summer. They are considerably cheaper than what they’ve been fetching in the vintage market.

They’ve released pics of the 4005 reissue. Said to be priced just under 5 thou. Expected to first arrive this summer.
