Rickenbacker Basses / Local kijiji

It’s not going to be up long , but it’s a later 4001 that’s been hacked , rebuilt , and painted with a Union Jack , asking price is $1000 Cdn , cheap!

Bass Amps & Effects / Monique
« on: January 09, 2023, 05:32:23 PM »
I’ve been looking through classifieds for some years now , and one thing I’ve been looking for is the Monique Pre by Jule. Preferably with the bird cage top. I was on the hunt last year but nothing panned out , just before Christmas one popped up in California , but it instantly sold.
One popped up last night , but I didn’t see it until this morning. The seller was limiting sales to the continental US. And once again I thought maybe it wouldn’t hurt to ask.
Should be in the post tomorrow on the way to Nova Scotia.

I’m excited! I’ve been on the hunt for one for ages.

Other Bass Brands / Matsumoku

I’ve been looking at a UniVox HighFlier for over a week now , and accepted the inevitable , it will be on the way here. It’s a Phase II model , clean , looks to be great condition. The classic Mosrite copy.
I used to think my Samurai was the ultimate Japanese surf bass , that might change.

Gibson Basses / The DC Jr is no longer in production.
« on: December 12, 2022, 01:52:33 PM »
It’s still on the website but apparently those that have recently tried to order one have been told it’s no longer in production.
I’ve been half expecting it for a while , but I’m sad to see it go.
They’re great little basses.

With the recent addition I figured it was a good excuse for a group shot. So here goes …
The GenzBenz Streamliner is 900 watts and has a three tube preamp so it can get warm sounding , it was serviced by Andy Field and is like a brand new amp . The Bergantino Forte is my main gig amp these days , it’s a simple transparent head with some serious slam , 700 watts at 4 ohms. The SWR a is fairly recent find , 400 watts , but there’s a lot of stuff packed in that little package , another hybrid with a tube preamp. The Darkglass Exponent can be programmed via a tablet , and is an amazing little thing. 500 watts at 4 ohms. The GK MB200 was a longtime favourite as a practice amp , completely love it. When it went down I got it fixed.
And the Hotone Thunderbass is one dandy little headphone amp.
I usually have two practice rigs on the go and keep my gigging gear totally separate , so it’s just a matter of grab and go. I don’t have to wonder about forgetting anything.
Not pictured is my little GK MB150 combo. Initially bought for my upright it quickly became a favourite little amp , still used mostly as a moderate volume rehearsal amp. Quick to grab and head out the door.
Now I know there’s a lot of old school tube heads , and I totally get and respect that , but for me Class D works very well , and I love the small , lightweight package. They give me a nice warm deep old school thump.
 I like ‘em !

Bass Amps & Effects / Darkglass Exponent 500
« on: September 15, 2022, 09:23:39 AM »
Kijiji score , new amp day ! The presets on this are mind bogglin , but so far it’s sounding great . Downloaded the Darkglass suite but haven’t been able to connect my tablet to the amp yet. This is going to have a steeper learning curve than what I’m used to , but it’s an enjoyable ride spinning the knobs so far.
This is quite the little rig , I doubt that I’ll gig with it , but it’s a wonderful home diversion.

Edit

Managed to connect the Suite to the amp , it’s wild to select a pedal , adjust settings on an iPad and hear the changes on the amp ! And there’s five preset channels to load up! Amazing tech. This thing sounds great , and is an incredible platform to mod. So far in I’m simply blown away by it. I’ve just used the Jr through it so far.

The Bass Zone / Leather cases
« on: August 30, 2022, 11:46:31 AM »
Several years ago I picked up a leather Levy gig bag on the local kijiji (that I watch like a hawk) , it’s really a guitar case but perfect for that Dano Longhorn I usually gig with. And I love that bag , love it so much in fact I decided to splurge and get another leather bag.
Found a new Maruszczyk for a reasonable price in BC , it arrived this morning. The leather is a bit stiffer than the Levy , and the pockets are Velcro’d instead of buckled , but I’m happy with it!  The other option was to get a Rockbass case , they seem to be similar in price to the Levy’s.
I think this case will outlast me !
Here’s the two

Guitars Etc. / Gretsch Electromatic baritone
« on: August 05, 2022, 03:33:17 PM »
And another kijiji find , Gretsch baritone . Real good price .
It was tuned to B , I’ve dropped it down to A . There’s been talk of an odd little project with some friends , and there’s some baritone in there so I snagged it and might well be letting one of the guitarists have it . We’ll see .
One knob and a strap pin are not original , everything else checks out good .
It is on the heavy side , but being a specialty instrument would only be used for a song or two at a time .
I’ve been playing a Bass VI a lot . This is 29 3/4 scale , so was originally planned to be a Bass VI , but the string spacing is tighter like a guitar , so they marketed it as a baritone . You have to be careful with string length because of the extra scale and the Bigsby .
Herself thinks it’s a fine looking thing . And for the time being I’m enjoying goofing around on it .
Feeling lucky .

Gibson Basses / SG
« on: July 25, 2022, 09:35:17 AM »
I know it’s just a bog standard SG bass , but I really enjoy it .
And with the treble turned down and the neck pickup solo it does have a deep rich whomp . I bounce between that and running both .
Now someday I would love to find an EB3 for the right price , but this is fun .

Bass Amps & Effects / SWR Headlight
« on: July 21, 2022, 12:19:42 PM »
One popped up locally for sale for a nice price , I know SWR has been gone for a while now but the seller swears everything is fine and says it’s always been reliable .
It will just be used with an 8 ohm cab at low volume .
There seem to be a lot of stuff packed into a small package .

The Bass Zone / A little old school …
« on: April 28, 2022, 07:44:43 AM »
I was never one for blues rock , or much of the blues revival of the late 60’s , I fell for the simple shuffle . Here’s some friends playing some old school . Sitting down . With some sweet playing .

The Bass Zone / Test , check , is this thing on
« on: April 20, 2022, 08:08:38 AM »
Trying to navigate the process of posting videos .
So a quick test , I’m definitely going to work on the presentation skills , but goofing around in Dm for a minute , going to get the little amp closer to the iPad next time .

Bass Amps & Effects / Getting a pedal board …
« on: March 03, 2022, 05:51:32 AM »
I’ve always been an old school roots player . I always do the old school thump at gigs , and despite that get frequent compliments on my tone . I get a nice thump . Straight into the amp .
But after picking up that Squier VI to goof around on I’ve been picking up pedals . I’ve been showing considerable restraint too . So far I picked up a Fender TreVerb , a Genzler overdrive , and for giggles an Aguilar octaver . So I’m going down that slippery slope . Now this stuff is just for goofing around at home , they’d be lighting the torches if I started using this on gigs , but a nice locally made 13x18 pedal board just popped up on kijiji , and I’m getting it . Might be a day or two before I pick it up , we’re looking at some weather here .
I have been scarred from looking at some exquisite tweed covered boards on the internet . So that might be an option too . I can easily contact the designer , he re-tolexes amps and cabs …
And now I’ll have to pick up a couple more pedals … I’ll have some room , now that I’ve defined the size .
I’m going down that rabbit hole .

The Outpost Cafe / Native drum
« on: January 05, 2022, 02:41:54 PM »
We decided to buy a drum from a Mi’kmaq artist that lives about an hour away .
Alan Syliboy , he does a regular “Daily Drum” post on Facebook , and usually explains the significance of the image .
We settled on a Woman drum .
The Daily Drum
Todays drum features the image of a woman as taken from petroglyph images found in Nova Scotia.
In Mi'kmaw tradition, women are accorded the highest respect and regard, for they are the portals through which a spirit comes to earth. …
Here’s the drum , we pick it up tomorrow , good thing we’re looking at some weather Friday
