Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Anyone 3D printing parts?
« on: January 10, 2015, 11:42:56 AM »
I have heard of this happening, but wondering if anyone has done this.  I was thinking it would be an option for an EB1 (poles at the bottom ) pickup cover.  Like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1950-039-s-GIBSON-ELECTRIC-BASS-PICKUP-COVER-EB-1-eb1-/291270288938?pt=Guitar&hash=item43d10fe62a&nma=true&si=1T5kWq%252Fg2r4pJjDhKTgpviteYbs%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I'm hoping it would be cheaper than close to two bones to do that.

The Outpost Cafe / The new James Brown flick is fun

I saw it, and I like it. It's an interesting flick, with some 4th wall breaking and creative dramatization here and there.  Also has an odd but entertaing time line dashing back and forth.  But the first 5 minutes are funny as hell and they do a nice job with getting the right basses on there. There is a nice EB-1 where it should be too.  Anyone else see it?  I dug it.

Fender Basses / An old hunk of wood

This looks fun to me, and if everything is on the up and up, I think the opening bid is rational.  What say ye all?

Fender Basses / Legit Maple Cap?

Take a look and what do you think?

I haven't got a lot to compare to, but my thought is that for that date it is too much of a slab. Fender would have been geared up to mill the face of the neck for thin veneer boards.  But it could be legit.  And it could be an older neck refinned.  Or phony as a three dollar bill.

Anyone know the scoop on this?  I am guessing it started out as a regular later 4000.

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / My big project finally

OK, here is what I started with. Got both of these off of ebay several years back. The EB-0 came first.  It was a fascinating wreck, in that it had some severe control area damage, including a chunk that was lost, partially repaired at different times, and it also had a funky smell, like it had been in a flood or musty damp basement.  It was I think around $200 or less, so I snagged it. I was going to paint it glow-in-the-dark with glow in the dark knobs and pickguard, but I gave up on that, and figured I would do an EB-3.  I got the EB-3 off of ebay quite a while later, several months to a year, in hopes of using the body. The neck had the goofiest ever headstock repair. It had no angle at all.  It was a not thought out amateur repair.  So, I snagged that - around $200 again - and both sat around.  Family issues and health stuff, and death, stopped most of my tinkering for a few years.  But eventually I did this, and here are the pics.

OK, sleuths.  Any idea of what this is?  Not an old Gibson for sure.  Is this the new SG thing?

Gibson Basses / Time to get off the pot

Hey all -  I am cleaning up junk in my world, and need some advice.  I am wrapping up an 68 EB3, so I am wondering your thoughts on where best to score the following:

Rotary Switch
Pickguard
Wood rest thing

These need not be original, and in fact I prefer good looking and decent accuracy repros.  My wiring will be hot rodded, but I do want a switch that fits and works like the original.  I recall someone found them in Ontario maybe from Dudepit days.  I think fitting in the cavity is prime, and the 6 way Gibsons could work if a 4 way is too hard.

Guards are confusing. In days gone by I would think WD, but I don't buy guards that often.

The wood hook was around from the Kalamzoo storage score, but I don't see that anymore.

Thoughts?
