Probably true.  I'd like to see something more like the 40" scale range. The electric uprights interest me.

1/4-size uprights have 35" scale length (1/8-size have 31.5" scale length) and sound like an upright, not like a fretless electric. There are other parameters, like a piezo pickup. I tried the NS Design EUB and with the piezo pickup it had a nice uprighty tone, with the magnetic pickup it was just a fretless bass guitar.

That's really good to know!  That NS Design bass is one I've researched more than once, but I haven't laid hands on one.  I'd really like to test drive one, and your comments make it sound like a strong contender.  Did you try the "Omni Bass" or "Upright Bass" model? The Upright scale length is 41.7", the Omni is 34", so i'm guessing it was the Omni. That 34" scale would make it an easier transition...

Didn't see anything regarding this information posted so FYI, no Gibson at NAMM 2018.

Please keep your eyes open for my stolen 1973 Burgundyglo Rickenbacker 4001 Serial # MD1582. It was stolen in November of 2006. Reward for its return. Thx!

Also we all know this video, at 1:14 there's a 34" bass built like a cornerless 1/4-size and played horizontally, sounds just like an upright even with its bass guitar scale.

That's impressive Ilan
I think the secret is the overstand and neck angle along with a bridge that is similar to an URB.

At 3:50 there's an NS Design Basscello, too. It sounds quite like an upright.

And at 4:10 there's an orange Gretsch 5123 Electromatic that's identical to the one I have. I believe they only made that color as a Guitar Center model.

They all sound pretty darn great with those fingers playing them!!

Maybe Gibson chose to go to CES so it could try and push those self-tuning guitars. That's electronic, right?
Why did Salvador Dali cross the road?

Did you see the news about the power outage at CES yesterday? Probably Gibson's fault!
