The Doors' studio bass players
« on: March 10, 2013, 06:39:57 PM »
I knew that The Doors used bass players on their studio albums but had never seen a breakdown, so was pleasantly surprised to see this list. Looking them up makes for interesting reading.

The Doors - Larry Knechtal
Strange Days - Doug Lubahn
Waiting for the Sun - Doug Lubahn, Kerry Magness & Leroy Vinegar.
The Soft Parade - Harvey Brooks
Morrison Hotel - Ray Neapolitan & Lonnie Mack
L.A. Woman  - Jerry Scheff
Other Voices - Jack Conrad, Ray Neopolitan & Willie Ruff
Full Circle - Chris Ethridge, Jack Conrad, Charles Larkey & Leland Sklar.
Why did Salvador Dali cross the road?

I always thought it was cool that Lonnie Mack played bass on Roadhouse Blues.

I thought it was cool that he bought the 7th Gibson Flying V off the line in 1958 and still has it!

That's a fifties EB1 that Doug Lubahn plays on "Strange Days". Sounds pretty good but I like the tone Felix Pappalardi got from his fifties EB1 better. More raunchy, in a good way. Like this.
Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

I'll have to see if I can dig this up but somewhere I saw a photo of Doug Lubahn on stage performing with The Doors and he was playing an Eko Model 995 Violin bass.
