NPBD: Mockingbird has landed
« on: October 25, 2012, 05:29:11 PM »
New pointy bass day!

First chance I ever had to try one of these was at a guitar shop in the early 90s.  It left an impression - I remember liking its sound and feel (especially the neck), and have had one on the bucket list ever since.  I've always loved the shape of these and the Eagle basses.

Nice birdseye wings:

With some of the varitone family:

I have a gig this weekend, and I'm really looking forward to putting it through the paces there.

With this, an Aria SB, and a Precision, my (inadvertent) Neil Murray shrine is nearly complete!   ;D

I LOVE the look of that bass from the rear - wait that didn't come out right.
Seriously, that has some killer lines and the view in the 3rd picture is amazing.

BTW, that's a nice looking family you got there.

Beautiful bass! I've always loved those too, along with Eagles. I would probably own one, but I just don't get along with 24 fret fingerboards. Awesome collection too, congrats!

That is a stunning bass! back in '76 I had my choice of the re released Bi-cent Thunderbird or the BC Rich Mockingbird. Even then I thought the MB was a much better instrument I just couldn't ignore the allure of the Thunderbird.

I love those basses!  Just missed an old Eagle bass (1976 with 2 Hi-A pickups) on Ebay a few months back for $899 BIN.   Nice collection too.

Who's that?

Was it JohnK?  I thought I remember reading that somewhere...  Pretty cool in any case!  That has to be one of the most iconic guitar designs in my eyes.

I think I first became aware of the BC Rich stuff due to this video.  Gave me adolescent GAS ;D  (and Grace wasn't bad either..  ;))

Thanks everyone!  The collection has reached critical mass and become sort of self-correcting...  I have two that have become wall hangers - my 78 Ric and that old fretless Stingray in the pic.  Despite having owned those for >25 years (the latter was my main bass back then), I'm going to unload one in place of this.  It'll probably be the Ric since I managed to get an early 73 last year.  There's not too much else that I GAS for now.  Ric 8, Hamer Standard, maybe a Hoffie, old Ripper possibly...

Can't wait to get my mitts on this one!!!   ;D
I'd be willing to keep your Blackbird company while this transpires  :vader:
