My YouTube guilty pleasure of 2008 is Julia Nunes. Uke-playing pop singing college student from somewhere in New York. She's gone from playing in her dorm room to opening for Ben Folds. Well over 50,000 subscribers now.

Her vids are great, Dave!  Thanks for the tip - love her Beatles cover too of "Her Majesty."

Concert of the year:
The Bees (what a band!!) at the Melkweg, Amsterdam

Bass of the year:
BaCHBird

Man of the year:
Barack Obama for giving hope for a nice future
French president Sarkozy for doing nice things for the environment and screwing nice birds in between

Rob Basvarken of course for the BaCHBird

Man of the year 2009:
Uwe for his wiedergutmachungs-act for Dutch people and giving the chrome bikes back in way of real nonrev Birds. (Yeah, I'm hooked!)

Best movie of the year:
I dunno.

Just downloaded their 2008 release "Directions To See A Ghost."  So I guess this counts as "Best of 08" - The Black Angels are a cool alt-psychedelic band out of Austin.  Remind me of Echo and The Bunnymen in their heyday.
