Guitars Etc. / Re: And look at this odd Fender!
« on: February 23, 2018, 06:02:29 AM »
I think that's a fake. The Musiclanders/Swingers were only made in 1969 and the pickup was a neck pickup.

That makes sense. It looks too bizarre to be '50s but I'd totally believe late '60s.

Gibson Basses / Re: Dire financial situation at Gibson?

Focus on building good guitars people can afford

That is the simplest and most accurate statement regarding what Gibson needs to do. Even if their guitars were a little more expensive than USA Fenders, they would do fine.

Hey, I'll happily listen to Neil Young's electric playing any day.

Wow, Rob, I didn't know about the volutes or that some of the later series were black!!!

I have the original case for mine but the poll only lets you have one vote.  I assume this is also an issue for those with multiple Bachbirds.

Irritating. I set the poll up originally so that people could vote multiple times because I know some of us have more than one of these and some have cases.
Even though I started the poll I can't even edit it other than adding  items or changing when you can see if someone adds something.

I may do another one so we can get an accurate account.

Discovered that Nightwish is playing here in NC on March 10 and decided to cough up the money and go see them.

My guess is that after a while the poll will show the twin pickup honey burst might be one of the rarer models, since it came near the end of the production.

I modified the poll to include original cases and the unfinished ones the company offered for a short time. I hope people can still add their counts because I no longer see that option.

I didn't realize Gibson told BaCH to stop the Gibson models. Glad I have the ones I got!

That's a great version indeed! I've seen BÖC more than a couple of times, even with the orignal line-up, but I don't remember Lanier playing as extended a solo on guitar ever. His "artfully sloppy" style contrasts nicely with Roeser's sleek melodicism. And the drumming ... signature Bobby Rondinelli, say no more!

I find it hard to get tired of this version and agree with you on Lanier playing an unusually long guitar solo on this one.

I first saw BÖC in fall '83 or spring '84 and saw them probably 7-8 times through 2000. That show in 2000 was rad because they played a bunch of stuff they normally didn't and didn't play some things they almost always play. It was an interesting show!

At one outdoor show at a small venue I ran to the end of the stage and got Bloom, Buck and Allen to sign my ticket stub. Bloom added the BÖC symbol to his signature.

There were what, 20 in the first series, 30 in the second. Any idea how many were in the third? I couldn't imagine it was more than 50 or so.

Went back to the original BaCH thread to find this, that I posted in 2011.

The first 20 BaCH NRs were all white (but I can't remember if they had belly cuts). I believe they were thick bodied.

The second set of 30 were all thin bodied with a belly cut. There were 10 white, 10 black and 10 Sonic Blue in that series. These had nice, thin necks.

The third series (up to current) were all thick bodied with no belly cut and were available in single and dual pups. The Honeybursts were all single pup but the Trans Cherry were available in both single and dual pups. A little later dual pup Honeybursts were available. These had slightly thicker necks.

Because I'm curious...

Haven't done a poll on here and I can't preview it so I might have to make changes...

Absolutely love my BachBird!
Plays so effortlessly and sounds fantastic, growls like a beast. Though to be honest it's been modified heavily...

Nice! Looks like it's seen some good use!
