I always thought that Dickinson patterned his image and singing style a bit after Ashley Holt of Deep Purple-split-off Warhorse:

Warhorse!? What a revelation! Shame for Nick they didn't get as popular as his old band. He did remarkably well forming such a similar sounding group. Wonder why Ged Peck didn't make it to this performance? Perhaps living in the shadow of he who cannot be named was too much. Dig that jazzy drumming from Mac Poole!
