I get the feeling that the New York Post and Gwyneth aren't really close friends. Did she at any one point turn Mr Murdoch, that purveyor of truth and responsible journalism, down? Of course, he wouldn't ever let that color the reporting of his media.

No, not at all. NY Post is a tabloid. Lots of news and original reporting, but all the latest celebrity news is one of their features. At my age, I have no idea who most of them are. (Fake) reality show stars, models, butt-ugly women with giant fake lips, Pete Davidson (who the hell is he, anyway?), etc. get plenty of coverage. It  gets clicks.

From what I've read of the trial so far, the plaintiff just isn't believable.

I wasn't there, but Gwyneth's immediate reaction could perhaps have been a bit more on the compassionate side. If it had happened to me, I certainly wouldn't have left the scene before the other guy has seen ambulance care - THAT IS NOT SOMETHING YOU SHOULD REALLY NEED TO THINK ABOUT, RIGHT?!

It always angers me when I see two drivers arguing after a non-bodily-injury car accident/fender bender on who was to blame. In 9 out of 10 cases (and certainly in all car accidents I have been a participant in; sometimes it was me, sometimes the other guy) both know who the guilty party was, yet blaming the other participant is a national sport in Germany. What's so hard about "My fault, I'm truly sorry, are you alright?"

I'd love it if that was practical.  Unfortunately in the litigious US, you don't dare utter a statement of responsibility.

Not only that, your insurer will tell you not to.

They tell the same thing in Germany. Don't visit accident victims either - bla bla ... The result is that policemen have to be called to determine what is self-evident. Waste of resources. And no insurer wins a case where someone has truthfully admitted fault, small print or not.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around why he would sue her for only $300,000 - a pittance as US personal injury claims go, not attractive at all for the law firm acting for him from a contingency fee viewpoint and, frankly if (i) Gwyneth were to blame, and (ii) he had really suffered permanent damages from the accident, hardly an amount that would make any lasting difference to his life. He doesn't look like a pauper, had a more than decent job and his travelling around the world hardly indicates having had to look at every penny spent in the past (nor does skiing in a place where former Hollywood actresses, pop star-exes and successful female entrepreneurs in their own right also ski). Strange.

And if an other-origin mental deterioration led him down this path, it's even tragic.

Frau Paltrow has great composure. All the flak she has gotten for GOOP seems to have turned her into a tough little cookie. And she apparently stood up to Herr Weinstein's approaches too. Not everyone did. Plus she's apparently not easily bullied - other famous people pay hush money for things they are adamant to not have done.

He sued for $3.1 million and included the ski resort as a defendant. A judge reduced the amount and dismissed the resort from the case.

I can't think of anyone famous who paid hush money.

Yeah, and much like the incumbent Governor of a reptile-ridden State, I have no personal experience in it either. (An innocent and most helpful comment that was if there ever was one.) 

Hell, I would have probably paid money for an adult actress to falsely claim to have physically engaged with me!

And so it goes, Gwyneth wins, while other celebrities will have to wait for their day in court.
