In reading your post and schematic for the "triple bypass" on an EB2, could that schematic be used on an EBO and maybe used with the mudbucker tapped for parallel/series?

Hey there-

You might be more interested in this mod for an EB-0, which lets you do series/parallel and coil-tap with the single mudbucker:

The "bypass" mod that you referenced is really only relevant on the basses that employ the choke/inductor in their circuit - EB-2, Rivoli, etc...  Unless, of course, you are going to *add* a choke to an EB-0 circuit - which could be fun...

i seen the post about the split coil tap on a muddy one and i found some light duty chokes (23 of them) that are 1.5 Henry, 130 ohm DC resistance, 350wv, 5/8" x 1-1/4" x 1-5/8"H. and might be small enough to fit in a relatively open control route. they are two wire out which i could prolly use the case for a ground to the pots. soooooooo.............

got any idea what the "old style" chokes ohm out at? i know the newer two coil ones go about 260-275 DC resistance (i checked this) and should be rated about 450 V according to Dan Torres via a phone call last year. he told me that Gibby used some left over stock amp chokes in the newer EB3's. i'm thinking 1.5 Henry on the old ones also? is that right?

i will say that listening to the sound clips in the bypass post maybe i don't need to coil tap this one, but it might be an idea for my 15$ 60's mudpup if i could find a cover for it as it fluked at 30.01 and i'm a gonna use it in sumpthin! a choke and bypass might be fun in an EBOish one.

Sounds like a cool project!  I agree about the coil-tap - I find the series/parallel modes more useful, and the sounds are similar (with the added bonus of hum cancellation).

No idea on that - I haven't measured one before.

you know me Joe, last night i was doing some research and found some interesting stuff:

1) 1974 Howard Roberts by Gibson uses a 70-442 choke

2) 1973 L6-S uses a 70-052 (maybe a 70-062 as the lettering was kinda trashy) choke

3) EB3-1st series uses a GA-90C choke (old boxy looking thingy with the case being grounded)

4) EB3-2nd series uses a 70-442 choke (newer two coil looking thingy with the choke coil pole/known as the bolt holding it together = being grounded)

5) Ripper - 70-442 choke

6 EB2- GA-90C choke  but the schemo said 15 Henry instead of 1.5 Henry for a value.

Due to the usage in both guitar and bass of the 70-442 i tend to think the 15 Henry value is a misprint concerning the higher value for this choke and the 70-442 is in fact a 1.5 Henry choke.

i wish someone here would throw an old choke and maybe a newer one on an induction meter and publish the results here!!!
