Other Bass Brands / New Bass Day
« on: September 11, 2012, 04:43:05 PM »
Just picked up this baby - what a beast!  She must weigh about a half-a-ton (all maple).  Made in Japan for Vox in the early-'80s.  This is the model allegedly used by Billy Sheehan when he replaced Pete Way in UFO.  The neck P/U sounds cool, the bridge pickup on it's own is basically unusable to me.  Neck is big - maybe too big for me.  Total late-'70s vibe - brass nut, brass-plated bridge and back cover plate, laminate neck-thru, etc.  Plays nice, all-in-all I think it's a great bass for the money.  Anyone else have any experience with one of these.?

The Bass Zone / Gutter Cat Vs. the Jets
« on: January 28, 2012, 06:13:12 PM »

I was just sitting here noodling away on the Brice T-bird I just got, when I inevitably started playing the intro to "Gutter Cat Vs. the Jets" (Dennis Dunaway/Alice Cooper).  It's one of my all-time favorite licks to play when noodling away on solo bass.

Anyone else here enjoy playing this one as much as I do?  ;D

Just got this beauty -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/310370012137#ht_500wt_1324

Surprisingly, it's a really nice instrument.  Finish is nice, weight is pretty decent, and the strings are spaced properly.  Frets and neck are nice, and the bridge is fairly good quality (even tho it's the F-style).  I haven't plugged it in yet but I'm not expecting a whole lot from the pickups.  Single-pickup model would have been way cool for me, but for only two hundy, I can't complain much.

Who else here has one of these?  Anyone know the type of wood used?  Doesn't look much like mahogany.

Anyone know what kind of bass Harris is using here?  You can see it pretty good at about 2:29.  I've seen this video a million times but I never really noticed that bass before.  I thought he was strictly a Fender man.  The 2+2 'stock kinda jumped out at me.

Edit to get single video.

Seems like an odd business model - pulling apart perfectly good instruments and parting them out??  Am I missing something here?

What have you all found is the best cure for a tilted bridge on an EB?  Is there any suitable replacement bridge available?

Gibson Basses / First post

Hi all, new guy here.  I used to lurk over at the Dudepit from time to time and I just found this forum last night so I figured I'd check in.  I'm a long-time Gibson bass lover, I think it started when I saw pictures of Arthur Kane and Overend Watts in action.  I played a '90s Gibson T-bird IV for a while, then I got ahold of a '64 T-Bird II.  The new Gibby was no comparison so I eventually sold it off.  Anyway, here's a couple pics of my Bird & my Epi basses.  Hope to enjoy myself here at the Outpost for awhile.  -Frankie
