2003 Bird report
« on: December 19, 2008, 06:00:26 AM »
I took my finished non-traditional TB to practice last week and it sounded phenomenal.  I really enjoyed playing it.  While the black soapbar stock pups on new TBs are fine, I have to say there is something very special (besides the cost) about the Seymour Duncan custom wound 60's era pups.  They have a stronger output and while they have a wonderfully deep bottom end, they are clear and articulate in the mid and high range.  I love the way they sound in this bass and my 60's rehab bass.  They seem to really mate up nicely with a tube pre-amp rig like my Mesa.  They just are a perfect match for one another.  This bass will definitely see some gigs down the road.

I'm fixin' a hole where the rain gets in..........cuz I'm built for a kilt!

Thanks Scott.  I can't imagine why they build what they do.  Just dumb.

Thanks everyone for the compliments.  It was a nice bird already when I started!

It looks great Bill, and I'd venture that your wiring (being different from the standard Gibson arrangement) contributes to a different tone as well. Why Gibson doesn't offer chrome as an option continues to baffle me.............Black hardware on most of the stock finishes is............ meh. I love my white "modern" Bird with chromey parts.  ;D

Yeah, I've toyed with the idea of modding my white bird with chromey goodness.  Hey, why not!?!
