An Epiphone Ravoli with the Jam

"Absolute beginners"

But given the bass sound of this recording, it's highly unlikely that Bruce played this Epi on this song, it sounds more like a Fender P-bass and it certainly couldn't have been his Rick 4001 because it doesn't have the "Clank"

I think Bruce only used Ps and Rickies. He also had an Ibanez Rick-copy.

If you see the DVD with vids you see all kinds of different basses, but indeed you only hear Ps and Ricks.

I love The Jam

The Rivoli was used on the "Sound Affects" album, listen to "Start".
The Jam were THE band in my "Punk" days of '78-'82, I was a huge fan.

Nope. I tried, I own a few of his albums but...I guess it was those 3 guys and the sound they made that did it for me. They influenced my instrument purchases too.

He has drifted a bit too much into the esoteric corner with the last handful of albums (all of which I have), I must say. I miss his talent for three minute catchy songs. The last thing remotely catchy he wrote was this in my opinion:

We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

I don't agree with you there, because THIS one gave me goosebumps when I first heard it.

...I loved it eversince.

In only agree wth you for the last album, Uwe. The ones before that had some nice and spikey songs. I don't like his ballads though. I don't kow what to think of his last album 22 Dreams. I only listen to a handfull of songs of that album.

I interviewed him twice this year for two different magazines and he's a nice chap.

About the Jam. I'm also a huge fan of everything Bob Forrest: Thelonious Monster and The Bicycle Thief. The cd 'You Come And Go As A Popsong' is one of my all time favorite CDs and I suggest you buy it too. Especially Uwe because of the name of the band.
I was at a Bicycle Thief gig in a small venue in Holland. Like 100 people in the audience and an entrance fee of 3 euros. Iit was just after 911. His normal band didn't want to fly so he used the support band as band. I only remember this beatiful girl on rhythm guitar and a very, very, very good guitar player. It was a very unknown guy called Josh Klinghoffer who afterwards toured with PJ Harvey, Gnarls Barkley, RHCP, Beck and more.
I was wearing a Weller t-shirt with a target on it and during the gig Bob pointed to my shirt several times and saying things about the Jam. After the concert he came to me and we discussed like all Jam songs:) We drank an awful lot (well, I did, Bob was quite sober at that moment) and I still have a nice TBT-poster with 'The Jam Rule' written on it by Bob.

I saw them on The Gift tour, and it was amazing.  They did start to drift into eh's-ville after that.  I listened to the first couple of Style Council records and found them so dreadful that I haven't been able to listen to him that much since.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.
