So I recently sold off a couple of U87s leaving me with a surplus of gear money burning a hole in my pocket. Combine this with a few too many fingers of scotch and I apparently thought it would be a good idea to own one of these:

At least the sale was based on a low-ball offer I made in my stupor. And despite the vitriol expressed by Uwe I don't find it all THAT bad. Its better than its flying V predecessor at least, and the finish reminds me of a time when I had more hair. 8)

If you got it for a low ball offer, then you did fine.

Looks great!! Always had a secret desire for one of those.

I really like that finish, just wish they were long scale - I'm quite jelly, nice score!

Nice! If you were blitzed and paid too much it would be bad, but with a low ball you can have fun with it and still have a chance of at least getting your money back (if not more) later if you want.

If you ever miss that U87 tone, a cheap replacement, though cardioid only, is the Rode NTK tube mic. A/b'ed against a Neumann U87 through a nice mic pre with good reference monitors, the Rode really delivers the goods with only a touch more noise.
Not a fan of the shortie Explorers, but I do dig that paintjob.

Nice score! Explorers look great, this one is no exception!

 congratulations!

I've got some paint out in the garage.... ;)

It takes a few too many fingers of scotch before you like that paint job.

Ive done worse things while intoxicated. At least with this experience I ended up with a bass out of the deal and not the hazey memory of hitting on what I thought was an attractive woman at the time :-[

I kept a few U87s, just had too many. I hear really good things about those NTKs though. A friend has one and he gets a lot of use out of it and the price is attractive for sure

I was going to suggest judicious use of some rattle-cans... :vader: (congrats)

The fin makes it a period piece. At least it'll look good and of its time.
