60's TB Tailpieces Update
« on: March 17, 2008, 01:25:46 PM »
Hi All,

The tailpieces are almost done.  The last few will be milled/drilled this week then off to the plater's by Friday or early next week!  More to follow!

They are taking a little longer than planned.  The string slots and holes have to be cut/drilled by hand and my machinist is doing it in between the real work of the shop so he doesn't have to charge us more.  He told me that it would have been a couple hundred dollars a piece if he put us in the shop's routine job lineup and charged us like a regular customer. By doing it on the side when things are slow, he could charge a lot less for a friend!

I'll be back next week hopefully with the final news!

For sure Scott.  Patience is a virtue.

Good luck Chris.  I won't bid on it.  Too much to ship to the US I think!

I talked to Bill the machinist last night.  He is drilling and cutting the last couple tailpieces this week.  They'll go to the plater on Friday or Monday and be back within a week.  We're getting closer and at least we're making progress.  For reference, the holes in the original we used as our model are drilled for #6 screws.  So, stainless steel #6 screws at about 1.5 inches should work well with the final tailpieces since they will be nickel plated and not overly shiny.
