The mapleglo is extra nice but I just couldn't live with that super-narrow string spacing.

+1

Mapleglo looks so much better with black plastic, though I prefer chrome metal.

Not a bass but still a cool Ric: '56 Combo 400 in Cloverfield Green. Tons of pics as usual with Olivia's.

Now that's something you don't see everyday.  :o

Looks like a bunny rabbit

It's known as a tulip body.

Whoah... that's different... not in a bad way either...

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

4002 in Mapleglo. Insane asking price. According to the seller, a recent set-up included "Tremolo mechanism cleaning and adjustment."

Does he think the bridge is a Bigsby?

Do you know of any that have sold for even half that much? You never know, though, they're rare enough that some collector just might go for it.

The trem part I think was a template text he probably uses on his guitar auctions.

The asking price is insane and I have never heard of a 4002 being sold for anything remotely close to $16K. OTOH some buyers never disclose the prices they paid so I guess anything is possible. I wouldn't pay half that price even for Geddy's personal 4002.

I still think 4002's were cosmetically challenged.

From the same seller: '60 4000. Asking nearly $30K, but drooling over the pics is free.

Dave W

He's only going to give us one week to bid on it at that price.

Although he doesn't give the amount of Gruhn's appraisal, I wouldn't be surprised if Gruhn is still trying to prop up the vintage market with "collector grade" appraisals -- and based only on photos, not first hand evaluations. One way or another, reality will eventually win out.
