I don't think it's a great idea to hand them the excuse of ignorance though.

I agree.  I was going to write a much more detailed response telling more how I really feel about the issue.  Basically, I'm appalled beyond words at the lack of ethics in business.  I would hardly even know where to begin.

Subaru is the first company that comes to mind as one that sells its features. Haven't you seen the "they lived!" commercials?

I'm a lot more likely to buy a Dodge (or is that Yodge?) than a Toyota.

I have seen them. The image they are selling is that of a safe car - nothing specific is detailed, just safety. In a 30 sec - 1min spot, they do a pretty fair job of selling it.

Me either. I always say that when businesses go public, they lose their souls. When you're corporate, there are so many places to hide from accountability. That said, I've met plenty of small business owners that are jerks as well.

I don't think you can really blame marketing...if someone isn't wise enough to get past those things that come at you in an ad, well, not much to be said.  No ad has ever convinced me to buy something -and especially stick with it, or change what I'm comfortable with.  Then again, I don't have cable, and my cell phone broke 2 month ago and I've no intention on replacing it.

If I had my way, I'd have a cheese factory in Switzerland or something!

Personally, the small business owners have tended to be worse for me.  They certainly know something about highway robbery.

Yeah, it's a topic I've barely been able to discuss for years, it has been so unpleasant.  But it's water under the bridge now.

I rather enjoy the creativity of good ads - although many are not.

What gets me about pharma ads is the lawyers running rampant through them.  A 30-second spot might have 10 seconds of positive and 20 seconds of a dreadful recitation of the possible side effects.  The problem is that no ad can cover all the side effects, so why mention ANY??  These are doctor-prescribed medicines, let the doctor deal with the interactions and possible side effects.  That's what he/she is there for as part of the decision-making process in issuing prescriptions.

As an outsider (no other country I know of allows such pharma ads), let me assure y'all that we are totally weirded the eff out every time we visit and every second commercial is all like"this shit will finally make you happy and a complete person again - there' something wrong with you, but don't worry because this will totally fix it.... just watch ou tbecause it may also increase the risk of a serious prolapse/pooping your intestines out, with a small chance of a chestburster. ... but you'll be happier!"

If it wasn't for the side-effects disclaimers, they sound exactly like what Officer Ed told you a typical drug dealer's pitch is, way back in 5th grade.

The best 10-minute Ford commercial in history:

And not a bad 2013 remake from the TV series Alcatraz:

"A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any other invention with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila."

One of my two favorite car commercials (the other isn't online). This is circa 1974.

That RX-3 ad led me to this clip...

I certainly wouldn't mind one of those! ;D  (in a 2-door, of course)

Challengers rule and Zoe Bell is hot.
Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

I'll bet every Mopar fanatic was crying during that whole scene.
