Greco humbuckers
« on: November 08, 2015, 07:34:08 PM »
After buying my Greco TBII I kept coming back to it for that intense single pick up. I managed to find a pair of Greco tb pickups for sale which I have since put into my Gibson thunderbird, man do they rock. Does anyone know where I would be able to find more? Or if there is anyone maki replicas(without having to go to Seymour Duncan custom shop)

Cheers

Short answer, no I don't,  short of finding broken old Greco TBirds  to take them from- but the prices of those have been on the increase.
Maybe a lead. A few months ago, there was a beat up, but apparently still functional two pickup Greco Bird in Melbourne on one of the gear Facebook pages (Japan Guitars Australia) in Melbourne for about $700 but has now been removed. Might still be kicking around Melbourne?.
A bit off topic, I saw you made that mod on another forum (the good club of TB ;))I was not sure whether the outstanding performance of the single pickup Greco Bird was due to the pickup position alone and had held off going after a two pickup Greco for fear of being disappointed. Sounds like a dual pickup Greco would be pretty good as well.
I have been similarly impressed with a single pickup Greco TB 900 that came my way some months ago.

The two pickup Grecos are beasts as well (I've owned three and still have one), but the single pickup models are just fabulous from a pure and simple meat and potatoes point of view.  I miss mine (which I bought on this forum)

The '66 Thunderbuckers are most likely very similar.

Thanks for the tip I'll keep an eye out do that one...

I did end up putting the greco's in my Gibson and I was hugely impressed with the sound, it previously had thunderbucker 66's so they aren't a good sit in for that particular take on the pick up. I would say the greco's are a lot cleaner and more focused more a more detailed high end, they respond fantastically to EQ and can be pushed many ways. The thunderbuckers have a beautiful tone, natural drive like no pick up I have heard but very much a vintage sound and I found myself Eq'ing to suit the vibe.

Putting those 66's in my rickenbacker

That's interesting, the one thing my Greco does not have is much treble detail.  It's all about the mids.
Basses: Gibson lpb-1, Gibson dc jr tribute, Greco thunderbird, Danelectro dc, Ibanez blazer.  Amps: genz benz shuttle 6.0, EA CXL110, EA CXL112, Spark 40.  Guitars: Danelectro 59XT, rebuilt cheap LP copy
