I would have thought the Les Paul myself. Yes, the SG was always cheaper, but I've personally always seen more Les Pauls around.

I would have assumed that the gigantic sales of the SG were in the sixties and early seventies, before Ac/DC broke the world. But Angus has certainly become the SG icon. Other players were Glenn Tipton (in the seventies to early eighties), Frank Zappa (pretty much throughout his career) and Page with his double-neck. Plus that painted thing of Clapton which ended up with Rundgren. But Angus and the SG have melted into one. He once said in an interview that any other guitar looks silly on him because he is so small.

Dave Meniketti is my fav LP player but many others have inspired me.
I bought mine when I hit 10,000 posts on the meniketti.com forum. :D
Goin' on 20k posts there now...maybe I'll get an SG when I hit that!
My '83 Zemaitis is sorta like an LP....only WAY better!
I've got a bitchen '83 Ibanez Artist Double Cutaway Flametop Sunburst ax that's kind of a cross between an LP & an SG!!
My first Gibson was a Sonex--the low end wannabe LP which I got for $235!

Terr - Ditto on the Zappa - times seen and his SG... AND on "Skydog" - only reason I got mine... 8) ... wierdly, he used a Strat' for a lot of the Atlantic session work, most notably on Aretha's "The Weight"... but he's mostly forgotten re "Layla And..." - Clapton credits Duane with the (Layla) intro riff, these days...

Uwe - Tipton and KK were (are?) great twin leads, and agree re "AnguSG" (and before you say it, yes she needs a refin... :o)
