Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / New Ripper project!
« on: November 24, 2009, 07:47:26 PM »
So, I found this poor mug on Craigslist and went to look at it. It's missing the electronics and pg but everything else is there. Serial number is 968277, which I believe dates it as a very early one. Though some yahoo painted the body a hideous shade of blue, he had the sense to not mess with the neck and headstock, even taping off the neck so the grotesque blue paint didn't get on the fretboard. Classy, eh?

Gibson Basses / Looking for an old NR T-bird thread
« on: November 04, 2009, 06:56:10 AM »
Drbassman told me there was an old thread regarding Gibson Nonreverse Thunderbirds and in that thread were a bunch of specs and dimensions for the placement of pickups, electronics, etc. Anyone have that thread bookmarked?
Thanks!

The Outpost Cafe / For you Mopar guys
« on: October 27, 2009, 05:12:11 AM »
I saw this at lunch a couple of weeks ago. Came out of the restaurant and there in a sea of indistinguishable silver/gray/white/can't-decide-what-color-I-really-am cars, minivans, suvs and blahmobiles was this '70 Challenger R/T in Plum Crazy Purple. It pretty much stopped everyone cold! It was an auto with a 340 4-barrel. Hot!

The Bass Zone / Musical Joke of the Day
« on: October 21, 2009, 07:24:23 AM »
A biology graduate student went to Borneo to take some samples for his thesis work. He flew there, found a guide with a canoe to take him up the river to the remote site he where he would make his collections. About noon on the second day of travel up the river they began to hear drums. Being a city boy by nature, the biologist was disturbed by this. He asked the guide, "What are those drums?" The guide turned to him and said, "Drums OK, but VERY BAD when they stop."

Well the biologist settled down a little at this, and things went reasonably well for about two weeks. Then, just as they were packing up the camp to leave, the drums suddenly stopped! This hit the biologist like a ton of bricks, and he yelled at the guide,

"The Drums have stopped, What happens now?"

The guide crouched down, covered his head with his hands and said: "Bass Solo!"

The Bass Zone / So, what IS the longest electric bass out there?
« on: October 14, 2009, 09:44:18 AM »
The length of the NR BaCHbirds had me thinking that while looking for cases. Mine measures around 51" long, far longer than my other basse.
So I'm curious, what's the longest electric bass anyone here owns?

Bass Amps & Effects / Sunn Coliseum 300 at home. :)
« on: October 14, 2009, 05:28:06 AM »

Just got my Sunn Coliseum 300 out of the shop last night. Somehow, someone had pulled loose one of the internal harnesses so it literally produced no sound at all and the shop had it cleaned, fixed and up and running in about 2 hours. It's sitting atop an '80s Ampeg SVT410 (which I got from a buddy for $175) at the house and man does that combination sound good! The Sunn is 2ohm and the Ampeg is an 8ohm cab so if I understand correctly, buy the time it all works out it's only putting out 75 watts, is that correct? I think if I wire all the speakers together that would get me back down to 2ohms on the cabinet letting me get the full 300 watts out of the Sunn.

Let me know: I'm interested in what you've got to say or suggest. Thanks!

The pics look good but it's not here where I can look at it.  If my buddy checks it out and it's a nice one, is $750 a good price for one?
Thanks!

Other Bass Brands / BaCHbird cases...
« on: September 30, 2009, 08:15:23 AM »
We all know that the NR BaCHbirds are looooong and finding a hardshell case seems to be difficult. However, I was looking around and found this Dean hardshell case with dimensions listed at 53"L x 18"W x 2"D. Other than the depth, which I'm unsure of because the bass is at home, I think this case might work. You'd probably have to reform the inside, but you'd have to do that no matter what you found, I think.

In the months since we've received our NRs, what have you found for a case?

My buddy's asking if this is a good deal because he's interested. I don't know much about Epi Rippers at all, but don't think they are made any more.
I have a Ripper so I don't want it, but what do you guys think of them? Would he like it?
Thanks!
