Custom Thunderbird "S" Strap

I wish it would have been a little longer, but other than that, I like it.  It's a definite improvement in the balance.  I'm sure I can find a way to extend it a little more.

Haha and I complained about it being too long for my needs. Then again, I wear it up higher like JAE so that I can rest my right arm on the "wing". (As seen in the photos I posted)

and am relieved to find that you both don't take your physical impediments too, errrm ... hard.

Letting issues of length hang for a moment, I have three of those straps and can attest that they stabilize a TBird more than a regular strap would. That to me is more important than the neck heaviness cure as I don't find TBirds excruciatingly neck-heavy.  Even the hilariously neck-heavy Epi Embassy sits more stable with it though.

I bought one of these from Glenn in February, but then left for a month long business trip to Korea before it was delivered. I finally had a chance to try it out today and I really like it. It pulls the whole bass a couple of inches to the right, so I don't have to reach so far to reach the end of the neck, basically it is in the same position as it is on basses with an upper horn. That makes it a lot more comfortable to play, and it doesn't hurt my back. I'll play the Thunderbird more often now.

I had been looking for a solution for this problem for a while. I've seen some basses on TB with an extension on the strap button (with the button on top like an Epi or a 70s Gibson) but that didn't seem like a good way to do it. This is such a simple and elegant solution.

I've misplaced my imperial ruler, but among sensible cultures the strap is 135 cms long if you extend it all the way. That is plenty long unless you want the bass at your knees which with the S strap wouldn't make sense.

It's also comfortable with other basses - I tried it with a Ripper.

I bought two a few weeks ago and Glenn said he had plenty. And they work great. Using this strap the first fret on my Greco TB doesn't feel like a long reach at all.
