Gibson Basses / Badbird bridge on fb

In the wake of my GS Cort Axe Bass I now am the proud owner of one of these ! I took a chance for $227 bucks. Been reading a bit on Billy's career and listening to come of his older stuff lately. I know this bass has no bearing on his Hendrix stint I still thought is was pretty cool. I remember when these came out was it the mid 80's ???

Our third year at Buffalo's Biggest Halloween Bash ! Upwards of 4,000 people, it was a lot of fun. We did the Zep. set. Me with My mongrel Jazz and Hiwatt rig, pretty happy with the sound :)

Fender Basses / Dimarzio Ultra Jazz

A up date to the continuing evolution of my '08 MIA Jazz bass that I use for our Zeppelin tribute set. For the $ ($875 new) this was the best value in the Fender line and it had the look I was after, unfourtunatley not the sound. The first thing I did was install Seymour Duncan Hot for Jazz pickups, this helped but still not quite what I was after. For me the notes don't jump out on the D and G string like they do on Gibson Thunderbirds, EB3s etc. I know this is in part due to Fenders bolt on construction and maple neck but I also think the pickups also contribute. I just installed a Dimarzio Ultra Jazz in the neck position and at something like 12.5k it really puts out and has Gibson like harmonics. The D and G string seem to sing. The real test will be with the band of course, gig Sat. I'll have a full report on Sun. PS The bass now sports a road worn Jazz neck as the bass had a little mishap onstage.  :-[

 I checked one of these out over the week end and was very surprised at how well made they are. Fit and finish are excellent, fret work is outstanding for a bass in this price range and it sounds really good even with the Mighty Mite pickups. The neck also has a nice full profile without being to beefy. So after much deliberation I went and picked one up ! What I am going to do with it I have no idea but it sure is cool and a whole lot of bass and fun for the $(I paid below MAP :) ). Not for everyone but if you are a Kiss fan I am sure you will like this bass. pics soon

Looked Gibson enough for me to bite, pretty sure that is a Dimarzio in there  :) I tossed a 20 on it and it stuck so now I am the proud owner of a Hondo Pro. II ! Looks like fun.

At a out door gig out side of Buffalo NY last night, my Hiwatt 100 was acting up at sound check. Low output and a noisy decay. Pulled the back panel and the cause was obvious, a failed EL 34, the top had gone white and upon closer inspection the tube had cracked halfway around the diameter. I pulled the bad tube and put in a spare EL34 and was up and running in less than 15 min. :)
