Another horror story...
« on: September 02, 2008, 08:13:02 PM »
I just came across this.  All I can say is....OUCH....

http://cgi.ebay.com/Old-Vintage-Long-Scale-Gibson-Bass-in-Original-Case_W0QQitemZ190248455482QQihZ009QQcategoryZ64402QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It looks like someone took a guitar body, spliced a neck on it, put something resembling a serial number on the headstock, and then left it to die.  At least the asking price is right.  The case should be worth that much.

i don't think thats a gibson while the body could be an EB4L the maple board should not be there.the head stock looks wrong and the "serial #" looks like it was cut from a different bass and glued on!maybe original neck broke and was replaced with this along with all the extra routs

You're right. Mid-70s Japanese bass with the top part of a Gibson headstock glued on. And probably shortscale.

It certainly has an EB4L body. I wonder what the next owner will do with (to) this

I shot a question to the seller, asking him to measure from the fret nut to the 12th fret.

I don't doubt the S/N is valid but the top part of the headstock is clearly grafted on. It doesn't belong to that neck.

Although, the wood laminates in the headstock do line up - which could maybeeee happen if the headstock was from another bass.  But the tone of the wood looks the same too.  Leaving the odd possibility of a Nashville dumpster oddball.  But a tighter better pic would help.
