Title: Fender's current tort material: finally they nailed it

Recently bought (from Angela Instruments) a Fender '62 spec P pickguard. After too many decades of wrong and sometimes hideous tort, Fender have finally nailed it. It's really close to the old guards. The top layer is nitrocellulose.

A nice bonus is the 30-degree "vintage bevel" - compared to 45-degree on all others, and much prettier.

Cool!  I like the less aggressive bevel myself.  Post a pic of it!

Hey, that's good news. I'm doin' a makeover on my '75 P with Rick Laird specs, and was not pleased with the tort P guard I got for it.

That IS good news.  Some of the "tort" I've seen in recent years has been quite ugly.

I bought a tort pickguard a few years back that looked good in the EBAY listing.
It came in a vacuume sealed, cardboard backed pack, from one of the major pickguard companies.

When it arrived it looked odd up close. Under a magnifier, you could see a dot pattern!!
The tort pattern was PRINTED ON !!  Gag.

They was no mention of that in the listing. The seller acted puzzled that I was unhappy and returned it.

I was fond of the early RI pickguards.  The 82 stuff had a light orange vibe.  They did not look right as vintage, but they were better looking than the darker ones they did later.
