That's ingenious!  :toast:

I noticed the tailpiece hole pattern doesn't match the bridge saddle spacing? Is that why you decided to not use the last hole and put the two octave strings on the G in one hole together?

Thanks, it took me four years before the light went on as to how I could get the look and function I wanted.

Nice eye...yes, that's the prototype 12 tailpiece, I don't know what happened. I rerouted the neck pocket on a 4 string RNR to fit a wider 22 fret 12er neck.  The anchors and tailpiece holes were in the correct place for the new bridge and tailpiece.  But one 2mm hole I couldn't get right.  Fixed on the current bass and got the Tenner right on the first proto.

Those five string ThunderBuckers cover all 10 strings.  That was a pleasant surprise!

Vitamin water??

Gwyneth was pushing it on QVC, I couldn't resist. Seriously, just plain water. Here's what he back looks like dry.

Customer wants a 'vintage tint' finish, it will probably be close to the look of the wet pic.

So, the Tenner is a go!  Got a victim customer to push it over the top and give the prototype a home.

Epi bolt on body:

Full speed ahead on the fin/refin.

Fill the 3 point holes with Durham's 'Rock Hard' Water Putty and recontour heel and lower horn.  Fill pg holes with plastic dowel

"Ebonize" Fretboard with Fiebing's leather dye and sharpie unnecessary dots.  Waiting on some black 1/4" replacement ones fom Les Ismore to complete the illusion.

I love the idea Carlo!  :toast:
But do think that bridge set needs some extra attention.

Thanks, Rob!

That's a prototype tailpiece made from aluminum stock.  Ditto the bridge channel. Customer has faith I'll clean it up, understands he's buying a prototype...this isn't his first Cataldo.  Both production parts are polished nickel silver.

Mixed up some Polaris White Nitro.  Basically Pure White with a bit of yellow and Burnt Sienna pigment.

Pure white undercoat on top of sanded spot primed mods.  Plenty of poly base on the untouched original finish. 61% humidity and 90F.  Better painting through chemistry.  Flash Off leveling solvent and No Blush retarder in 'slow'  lacquer thinner.

One coat Polaris white, Two coats clear nitro Piano Lacquer.  Done.

My '64 in the background, naturally yellowed after a Polaris White refin about 10 years ago.

Geezer Dots...because who isn't?

Thanks, Rob!

Old school Candy Apple Red. Didspade pigments.

Samples done on white and black pickguard material and gray primer

Gray as the base it is, no pic.  trust me.

Gold base (flat gold pearl in acrylic lacquer

Bloodshot red and a smidgeon of blue candy color in clear lacquer

Two coats clear over the candy toner. Results 'off the gun'

Let the relicing commence (oh, the horror)...
