Was it sold at auction?  It and Pete's look like twins.

Sorry Carlo... forgot to note it but the red one was sold at that auction for circa £12,000 - it is one of those page numbers I noted, I think...

#196, 12k.  Almost everything that was in the bass culture book is there, plus 2 Status Buzzards and others, great stuff!

Brace of birds bound for Hamburg, my first sale to Germany.  The REV will be Ebony.  The JAEbird, Polaris White.

No slop in these neck pockets.

Not unless he's changed his name to Uli, moved to Hamburg and joined Rudolph Rock & die Schocker.

Kool!  The Fatherland succumbs!   :vader: American superiority wins again.

As a buddy said when I told him about the order, "Yeah, they can still afford to buy stuff."

This one's going to Boston, #0059.  Customer wanted 'Cadillac Green', a color my brother had on his hollowbody Gretsch in the mid 60s.  The original was NOT metallic but the reissues are.  We decided to go old school.  It will have a tort guard and two stacked pots.  Bridge pickup is moved farther south than on a TBird so Steve is winding something hotter for that position.

Headstock has been buffed, body hasn't.

Using British Racing Green acrylic lacquer.  Requires buffing but goes on really smooth.

That body shape is great and it's my favorite bass style of yours!

Heh, the best part about this build is that you're working out auto paint formulations before doing my NR II. Yes, it's selfish! :)

I like the color too.  Is that a one your standard necks?  I'm struck by how nice the rosewood looks on it.

Got the clearcoat yesterday.  Will probably shoot an inverness body in the next week or so to make sure I know what I'm doing.

Yep, direct from Allparts, the stripes are subtle.  I think it will look even better once it's cleaned and lemon oiled.

Customer wants a tort headstock plate to match the guard.  Problem is, tort doesn't come that thin.  Here's my solution.  I took a picture of the tort blank with my trusty Lumix LX-5.  Put in some Photoshop time and came up with this jpeg.  Took it to my local copy shop along with a white vinyl 8.5 x 11 sticker sheet.  Color laser print cost 39 cents.

Then I cut out a plate from .02 lexan, stuck on the vinyl, trimmed to size and clearcoated with lacquer.  It's a very close match to the actual tort.  Plus now I can do white on black plates for my other basses.  I still love those cheap tricks!

Also shipped #0058 to North Hollywood while I was at the copy shop.

#0059.  Raw neck back per customer request.  ThunderBucker "S" in bridge position.
