It reminds me of the explorer-bird Entwistle played on the "Who Are You" bit of The Kids Are Allright.    Only much prettier.

One of these maybe?

The 'PukeBurst"

or this one.

Neither, I think, unless one got refinished, which is quite possible.  This one, has a flat finish:

Basses: Gibson lpb-1, Gibson dc jr tribute, Greco thunderbird, Danelectro dc, Ibanez blazer.  Amps: genz benz shuttle 6.0, EA CXL110, EA CXL112, Spark 40.  Guitars: Danelectro 59XT, rebuilt cheap LP copy

That was the only one in JAE's possession when he died.  Gloss Fiesta Red finish, his favorite color.  It's in the Bass Culture book.  As far as I can tell, at least 3 ExplorerBirds were built, all with slightly different cutaways

I built Mike Conte this replica and am building another for Russ Somers.  That will be the fourth one so far.

There's a white one in Pete Townsend's studio too... PC built the originals...

All we know is that he built around 50 customs, and if you try and figure from Eric's notes, and what we've seen in images, it's about covered...
One of the most exotic must be the double Firebirds, and we know he made two, all JAE's stuff, and the handful of others...
Four Explorers for definite... PT's, the two at HR, and the red one is who knows where...

and the red one is who knows where...

Was it sold at auction?  It and Pete's look like twins.

Not sure, but iirc the white one has chrome/nickel (?) parts and the red/orange has gold parts...

Nice article, Tom...

I'm presently reviewing this monster list...

Interesting items imho are lots 44, 69, 71, 81, 89, 123, 136, 168, 180, 194, 196 (the red PC; the only PC on sale that day), 198, 212, 219, 226, 227, 229, 243 ("Gibson Discoverer" bass), 258 (Ned Callen 6 string bass), 277/8 & 367 (original "Detours" posters), 341, 346 (flock of Buzzards), 353... 386 items all together; some quite bizarre ones...

This one gets the full JAE Gold/Fiesta Red treatment.  Finally installed Photoshop on my current computer.  Beats the crap out of Picassa for manipulating images even though it's a 2003 release.
