Pretty happy with the way the side dots came out.  They're the same size as my S.D. Curlee which doesn't have face dots.  Given the choice I'd take big side dots over face dots.

I like the large side dots. I'm old and blind. Sometimes, if I'm under red stage lights, the ones on my Ric disappear.  :-\ I played a Modulus for a while with no fingerboard dots. I thought it would drive me nuts, but I mostly didn't miss them at all. But I do like the way they look versus no dots.

Thanks, John!

Strung up and hung up.  Haven't wired in the pickup, still have to buff out the paint.  The action is low and buzz free even though I haven't done a fret dress yet.  Acoustic tone is great, tempted to say the set neck is responsible.  Weight is 7.4 lbs.

;D ;D...just received final payment.  Maybe I'll build one on spec and see if you can resist!

Time to make more tug bars.  These will be "ebonized", a fancy name for black stain, like the maple one on the right.  I rough shape a 1.5" block of mahogany and slice to width on the bandsaw.

Ebonized ash is a great look, really 3D.

0054 buffed and loaded.

Alternate Universe.  I don't really care for the sound of the Novak pickup, mostly low mids and not much else.  Since it's not adjustable there's really no way to tell if getting it closer to the strings would help.  My rule is if you can't EQ a good sound with a B-15, it ain't happening.  If I build another it will look like this.  ThunderBucker magnets are around a half inch longer with a much wider magnetic field.

Look Ma, NO BOLTS!

Heads Up.

dadagoboi- How much would you charge for one of those ebony tug bars?

I see them on Ebay from time to time for $29.99 plus shipping and handling which I can never justify spending for a little piece of wood. I know people have to make their money and all but that's a bit much in my opinion.

I was thinking something more along the lines of $10 after shipping but is that crazy low?

Whenever I can't afford something I make it myself or do without.  To me that doesn't mean it's worth any less.  If I were making them in quantity I'd price them accordingly, but each one is in effect a custom job.  Since they're NOT ebony they have to be stained and finished individually. It really takes more time than it's worth.  Sorry.

0055, gets a '63 Thunderbucker neck pickup.  Customer is the guy who sent me a pic of Tom Petersen's '64 a while back.  Color will be ebony with matching headstock.

Done, weighs 8.2 pounds and I love the way it sounds!  Going to Mark's neck o' the woods, Bremerton, WA.

#0056 with rough set up and ready for finishing.  I decided to use an ebony board Jazz neck after the rosewood one I ordered came in looking stripey.
