I stopped in just for a few minutes to chat with my favorite sales guy about my long awaited Hofner Club. He was on the phone so I wandered around the shop and made the mistake of picking up one of those new road worn Fiesta Red Jazz basses. I've never been all that fond of reliced basses, but this one looked really cool and played sooooo nice. Well, you know the rest of the story. I put a deposit down and will pick it up after I sell a few odds and ends. Pics when I get it. I am so weak! :-\

I am not alone! No worries Bill, these basses are lively resonant and light. A excellent effort by Fender. Enjoy!

Try as I might, I can't resist those jazz basses. I played a select jazz too and while it's beautiful, I really dug the road worn much more. Heck, if I drop it on the ground, who'd notice? Or care? I think it's gonna be fun to own one of these and add a few of my own relic marks.
I'm really finding the jazz and TB are the best for the old R&R junk we like to play.

Not to worry, this one is funded by sales of other gear/stuff!

I think you're genetically linked to J basses.
And that's A Good Thing!

Can't shake that first bass memory! After 60 years, they are still great basses.

It's true! Some likes 'em, and some doesn't, but they are indeed great basses.

Just like the NR TBs of the 60s!

It'll be nice once it's refin'd... ;D

Oh, you are too much! You know how hard it is for me to buy something in such condition! But I will try to restrain myself.
-
If you beat it up some more, will it increase or decrease the value?
Remember, if you put some real road wear on it, the bass could explode from internal conflict. ;D

This has alway been my dilema ???
I'm sure there is some "expert" who can determine factory wear vs. human wear and make a determination of price , and I'm certain he would charge a very reasonable fee for his expertise :P.

You guys only have half of the equation. If X is the amount the bass is beaten up, and Y is years, then you need to account for beating it up AND adding 40 years of age...with Z being the amount a sucker will pay for it.
(X+) + (Y+) = (Z+)
And no, I didn't major in math or its notation. So the above is probably completely mathematically incorrect.
-
Sorry Al, that's Stephen Hawking's Unified Theory of Instrument Relicing...
-
These are all good questions that I didn't contemplate when I bought it. Since they are obviously too complex to answer sufficiently without my head exploding :o, I'm just going to muddle ahead and do my best. As for the bass, I don't even need a case. I'll just tie a string around the strap buttons and toss it over my shoulder! ;D

Hmm... now there's a thought... buy a cheaper standard model, tie it to the rear bumper (fender to you USA folks), and go for a drive down a nice gravel road... every one guaranteed unique... I stand to make an absolute mint... :vader:

I'm not concerned. I got it cheap and do like the look. First time a relic bass has ever appealed to me!

I was going to ask if that was Fiesta Red, then I took the extreme step of actually going back to the first post and reading it. Yes!
I like it, but I gotta think it's pining for a bridge cover with a big F on it.
-
I used to love the "big F" covers, but I didn't install the one on my CAR jazz and one didn't come with this one. I'm liking them all naked! :o

<Politely ignores comment and stares out window, whistling softly...>

all kidding aside i have always liked the looks of that bass. :)
-
Thanks. I got lucky with that photo and the reflections on the chrome really set it off nicely.
I haven't played it in a while and I think I'll pull it out tonight.
-
Yeah, you gotta be careful about those chrome reflections...
And that is a good lookin' bass.
