Shhhhh..... a modified Blackstar with $1,900 starting bid, listed as a "Rickenbacker 4003 Electric Bass"... I don't think the seller knows what it really is.



Is that a bow rosin canister he has there in the case?

Maybe, maybe not. Seems high for a regular 4003 in that shape so maybe it's a stealth marketing strategy.

I have just noticed that the extra pickup in the case, supposedly the original, has a black handrest.  Blackstars (unlike Shadows and other Black Trim Rics) came with a chrome handrest in a black surround.

Looks like the inlays are the standard pearl, I thought all full width inlays were the crushed pearl type.

These are transitional inlays. Until '73 the inlays were crushed pearl and full width, in '73 RIC started using the poured material but they were still full width, and in or around May '73 they introduced smaller inlays.

That is really nice!  Both '74's that I once owned had red dots.  Was that the only period that had the red dots?

AFAIK yes, only '74 had red side position markers.
