The guy who bought the same bass twice — first in 1977 and again in 2023

The "JPJ" Ric (tribute). Some young guy on one of the Facebook Ric pages did that. The original lives at the Ric factory museum now. I like this one. He's a got one or two Cliff Burton tributes for sale as well.

The body is that of a Cii.  Note the walnut sandwich in the control cavity.

That looks nice, but he's priced it as if it were unmodified. He must be hoping for a JPJ fan.

If he really wanted to make it look, and sound, more authentic, he should have moved the bridge pickup back to the bridge.  I would have done so.

It always makes me wonder about people who irreversibly mod their basses and guitars then turn around and sell them.

True, but that would entail a massive amount of extra work, including a re-fin.

I think this guy's intention is to make money doing reproductions. Based on his posts, it doesn't seem like he had any intention of keeping this or the Burton bass.

And would result in a thin-sounding, low output and generally useless bridge pickup. If the buyer still wants that sound he can put a J pickup (without the cover) or a Strat pickup inside the mute compartment. I think Bartolini used to make a special pickup to fit there.

If so, I'll be surprised if he's successful.

I have a hard time seeing he'd make much money out of it. 2595$ for the Cliff Burton tribute will not give him any profit unless he got the bass and parts at bargain prices.

I also found another one from another seller, made the same way but non functional strat pickup for 3595$ . Maybe same origin and someone who really tries to profit off of it?

The fact that he went from a Schaller bridge to the old Ric contraption makes my head hurt.  ;) 8) Outside of that, I really do dig it, including the existing pickup positioning. I guess what I'm saying is I'd like a 4004 with a teardrop pickguard and toasters.
