Oct. 1986 Shadow, #ZJ2918. $2,900 starting bid (Make Offer option). Not squeaky clean but not abused either.

This interesting creature was brought to my attention today. Ric design, Fender finish, Gibson pup.  :o

Wonder if it's a Dale Fortune creation?

Could be Dale Fortune. My guess would be Paul Wilczynski.

Good price for what it is.

Very interesting. And it's a short scale.

I agree.

I'm not sure it'd be Paul; technically this is not a Rickenbacker bass, it's a one off copy based on a 4005'sh body with a number of non-Rickenbacker parts.

Given Paul's working relationship with Rickenbacker I'm not sure he'd risk that by creating this.

That said, it's a very nice bass and had I saw it I'd have gone after it. There is still room IMHO for a hollow body Ric in the catalogue

IIRC, Paul has not had a working relationship with RIC for several years, now.

My guess would be Paul Wilczynski.

I forgot to get back on this thread... I had asked Paul if it was his work, and he was VERY clear that it was not.  8)

Anybody ask Dale if he built them?  If he says no, then who did?

Rumble Seat is a legit outfit, I don't think they would put "crafted by a Rickenbacker luthier" if it wasn't so. If Paul is out, I don't know who else it would be besides Dale.

Saw some interesting discussion on Facebook last night. It is not Dale's work either. It sounds like this guy bought it, and he was told a pretty tall tale. AND now I can't find the thread. Might have been removed because it's not a real Ric. Long story short - "Sometimes Ric allowed employees to build their own instruments in the shop, and if they were deemed good enough, they would put the Rickenbacker name on them."

Did RIC allow that as late as 2004? I wonder if it's even that old, with a Lollar TBird pickup and what looks like a Hipshot Supertone 2-point.
