Title: The problem with G&L
Post by: Dave W on February 28, 2015, 09:39:23 PM
Saw this elsewhere and thought I'd share, it expresses my feelings exactly.  ;D   No offense to G&L owners intended.

Agreed - too long for my taste and the pointy bit just doesn't look right to me.  I like the old style much better.

I don't collect for headstocks.... ;)

What if the headstocks were painted different colors?  :P

I have always liked them and thought they were very elegant.

yeah, I've hated on plenty of headstock shapes, but this one I have no issue with.  Halfway between Fender and Epi batwing... considering the Leo connection (and the Itellectual Property issues there) it always seemed about right.

I likes me some color-matching headstocks!

And the G&L headstock has never bothered me.  Looks just like a headstock.  8)

I like the SS and R/T series, with matching headstock and based on Chevy (SS) or Dodge/Mopar (R/T) colours.

I tend to agree with you. To me the headstock reminds me of scroll work on older high end furniture.

Of these style heads, I've always had a soft spot for the "Tele" profile, ie, the original P's...

Same here, Ken.

Agree about the Tele...but I find nothing offensive about the G & L headstock. Only one I ever played was a killer bass, totally.  Liked every thing about it.

Add me to the pile. I like that point and cutout. I'm NOT a fan of the original style headstocks, except the ones that said "Music Man" or "Fender."

Looks a bit too flowery-overembroidered to me, but I can't say it's a bad design. One man's kitsch is another man's beauty.

As headstocks go, I always liked the Ric one, the TBird one, the Flying V one and the no-frills early P Bass/Tele. And the Kubicki Factor one in fact, even though that is more of a stringholder than a headstock.

You want hideous headstocks? I'll give you hideous headstocks:

I don't think the G&L is hideous. It just doesn't look attractive or graceful to me. It looks like it was done for no other reason than to be sure it's never mistaken for a Fender. They needed to differentiate it, of course, but they didn't need to go that far.

I quite like those Gibson heads...

I guess one man's meat is another man's Linda McCartney pie...

Any headstock that requires string guides like that needs to go back to the drawing board.

Shouldn't that be a Jackson headstock? I confess that they're my least favorite...too much pointy.

We only briefly were able to experience the majesty of Linda's frozen dinners here in the US. I don't think they even lasted a year.  Personally, I'd rather eat the G&L headstock.

But I did get to meet her and Sir Paul when they came to visit the frozen food plant in Southern MN.  Both were really gracious people.

Sorry for the threadjack....

I guess you weren't trying to sell hot dogs.
