If I'd practised more or had lessons or learned music theory maybe I wouldn't be spending 9 hours a day in this office.

ilan.       listen to blues bassists from the 60's and early 70's. you would think those guys would be pretty conservative but many hit the root then head for outer space.

give a listen to early luther allison, junior wells, buddy guy, canned heat, james cotton and even the first couple of butterfield blues band records. these will provide a good cross section of what was going on. then listen to jimmy reed for a lesson in 'minimal minimalism'.
