I'd like that too, but I thought the features on this one were too good to pass up.

Hoping to get confirmation tomorrow...fingers crossed.

We get it --you'd like both!  ;)  This one looks very nice, I just prefer the smaller solid or chambered body basses.

It's like the answer my wife gets when she asks me if I want apple or pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving or Christmas:  BOTH!

They all make my mouth water.

Just got back from GC where I paid for the bass.  Should have it Monday.  I will of course post pics!

Now I could really go for an Electromatic version of the Thunderjet. In black, of course.

That goes without saying brother ........  ;D

OK, I now have a G5123B in my hot little hands, and it is one SWEEEET bass.  Some specs from hands-on observation:

- Scale length is 32".
- Pickups are TV Jones Thundertrons - their top of the line pickup!
- Controls are one master volume, individual volume controls for each pickup, one tone control.
- Set neck, of course.
- Color: that lovely Gretsch orange.  No options.
- Cream-colored binding.
- Made in Korea.
- Slight neck dive, not serious...a good strap will handle it.
- True hollowbody; has good acoustic characteristics when played unplugged.  Prone to feedback when right in front of the amp (duh).

Pictures!

Nice! The Thundertrons and being Korean instead of Chinese explains the price range. Hope you enjoy it.

Very cool! I'm impressed by the TV Jones pick ups. I have them in my Billy Bo and I reviewed a White Falcon Bass once.

Chris - what did you think of the Thundertrons?  I'm really liking the sound.

Now I'm trying out cases and gig bags.  Looks like a 34" scale gig bag just might work.  My Epi Casady case fits the outline - although the upper bout is a bit wider than a Casady, it fits with some padding compression - but the Gretsch is at least 2" deeper in the body, including the bridge - so the case won't work.  Not enough depth.

I'll find something eventually.  I haven't worked through all the gig bags I have.  I'd love to find a Gator case with the molded shell and nylon cordura exterior that would fit.

Some dimensions, in case anyone cares....

Overall length: 48"
Length of body: 20 3/4" (to high side opposite cutaway)
Width at upper bout: 12"
Width at lower bout: 16"
Depth/thickness from back to top of bridge: 4 3/4"

I love that bass.  I wasn't sure for that pricepoint that the pups were going to be real tv jones until you got it in your hands.  now that you are the proof I may have to start looking around for one... Compared to "regular " gretsch basses that is a steal....  32" scale was the put me over the top point.....

got to find a close GC
