Last year I owned 3 original 1966 Jetstar basses. I wish I had kept them because they are Killer basses, my favorite next to a Thunderbird.
-
isn't that the 'gumby' bass. glad it's not purple like your jazz bass.
-
now, THAT is cool.

You are SO kind...in an elegant, backhanded kind of way. ;D
-
I was going to way " what, another purple bass!?" :P But Nofi beat me to the punch
Seriously, those are cool basses. Was he selling the red one too?
-
He had a red, blue and black still in the boxes. The black is still available.....I seriously debated going for it so I wouldn't get hassled about the blue one, but I do like the color.

It would be cool if someone here ended up with the black one.

Very tempting! But I took my daughter's 05 Subaru in for an oil change tonight and noticed that the transmission was slipping! :o >:( It looks like it might be low on fluid (please God let just be low on fluid!) and if that's the case I could do it otherwise I'll be selling blood...

Here's hoping it's just low fluid!

Fingers crossed for you!
I thought his price was reasonable. Shipping to me was $30.
-
I once DIDN'T bought a purple one.. And it was cheap:(
But great score guys!
-
Nice (and I promise not to infer anything about the colour )
-
Congrats ! I just know there's a JetStar II somewhere in my future ..... 8) By way of some real vintage crooked logic I've convinced myself it's the proper tip of the hat to Zally Yanowsky ...... ;D
-
I first saw the white pickups in these basses on the Angela.com site, and they're usually for sale there. I'm interested to hear them when it arrives.
-
UPS tracking sez it's out for delivery!
I may have to find a reason to stop by the house this afternoon...it's only 10 min away.... ;)

Pictures of the newly arrived Jet Star!

Your Honor, the defense submits Exhibit A, the DeArmond color description, in which this instrument is called Moon Blue.
-
Hot damn ! That's a beauty .......... congrats !
-
I have seen the black and cherry ones before and always thought, meh! Nothing really special.
But this one is just awesome!
-
Admit it, purple is your color, nothing to be ashamed of. :P

I once heard, first hand, a football (soccer) story about the grass at Glasgow Rangers Footbal Club not being green and it actually was a "(?) Blue Grass"...
Still looked green to me...
[if you americans don't quite get it, think St Patrick's Day (not)]

it's a type of fescue seed.

It is what it is...
A spade... is a bright and shiny digging implement, carefully oiled and lovingly kept in the shed (next to the Gibson... :o)
-
Ken, do a google image search for Boise State blue turf.
-
Nowthat's blue-grass... I like the reference to Lambeau Field's "Tundra" (Packers, yes...?)
We used to call that stuff "super-grass" but no mainstream "soccer" club's use it here now...

So that was what Kossoff, Kirke, Tetsu & Rabbit were singing about ........ ;)

OH, yeah! Go, Pack!
Although the term popularly used to describe Lambeau Field, "frozen tundra," is not accurate. They put in a sub-surface heating grid and the field is no longer frozen, therefore it is not tundra, as tundra has permanently frozen subsoils.
Harrumph, harrumph.

I still can't get over how much further north we are in London than most of the US and how much lighter we get off from weather extremes...

Toots Mon...

Reporting after first practice with the bass....note that I played with both pickups at 100%, and the strings are new rounds, which is definitely not my normal practice as a mostly flats player.
Pickups are somewhat bright. First time I have heard what I would call "piano-like" sound from a bass...but the guitarist remarked about it saying "that sounds like a piano!" Perhaps a touch of reverb helped...there was a presence like a piano in a hard-walled concert hall. Very interesting. Definitely has a different voice than other basses. VERY sensitive to changes in finger and pick position. Playing over the bridge pickup gives extreme brightness and a rather metallic pick sound which I don't like much. Playing over the neck pickup gives a much more rounded sound, fuller and more pleasing to my ear. Hand position definitely causes more difference in this bass than others I've played.
Overall, definitely a solid, quality bass with a distinctive sound. The Gumby-waist makes it very easy to find a comfortable right hand position.

I like it a lot!

Harrumph, harrumph.
OK, the picture is MISSING! ;D You should post the picture if you use the Harrumph, hurrumph line :P

There will never be a another talent like Mel Brooks....

You've gone from De Armond Jetstars to Mel Brooks. What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports is a-goin' on here?

I'm looking forward to hearing how you like it. I may leave the rounds on mine even though I'm generally a flats player...they give it a distinctive bright sound.
I agree, the seller was fair with us and we didn't get hurt a bit on the purchase. I have no idea why he had three Jet Stars sitting in the closet.
